Another pic from GM - Jimmy Street Coupe!
GM sent me a few more pics this morning. This is their prototype GMC Jimmy Street Coupe. They never built this, wish they would have.
Here is a article I got from Ken L a while back with more about it. page 1 page 2

Jeff, why do you say they never built it?
I have never seen or heard of one being produced, just like the Amarrillo trucks. I have seen a Chevy Sport van. They advertised the Street Sedan vans so I'd guess they made a few of those too. Cool pic no matter what!

He sent me three more pics, just from different angles. He was also going to look for other special edition stuff.

Jeff -
I recently came across an on-line GM catalog (Mitchell) that specifically listed a 78-79 street coupe package painted grille. I wasn't successful in bringing up the image, so I have no image of it. I'm not sure of the reference, but I thought I'd pass it on to you. Maybe the listing of the grille is inconsequential.

street coupe truck
I recently acquired a short bed step side 81 GMC pickup that has a street coupe hood ornament and street coupe decal on both rear fenders. I just figured a prior owner stuck the hood ornament off one of the street coupe cars on the hood.
Was there actually a street couple truck line and what was the option package and is it a desirable option? honestly never heard of it on a truck. this little truck has been repainted and is all black and has a bent chrome front bumper and a mid 60s 327 corvette engine in it with some serious rod knock so it is far from original, but if it is something special I may change my plans for it. I guess I was thinking of the Buick super coupe. Anyway. this old pickup is a step side. 2 wheel drive. it has been repainted all black and has a Chevy grill in it. the hood has a square ornament that says street coupe. Who ever painted it did a single narrow tape pin strip at the belt line and it has a decal in script that says street coupe on both rear fenders. Looks nothing like anything on your link. The truck has obviously been rode hard and put away wet a number of times. It has a one leg 10 bolt, a 350 turbo automatic, most of the dash is screwed or missing and the original engine is long gone. It currently has a 327 from the early to mid 60s in it. It is a nice little starter project truck that I intend to build as a shop truck. It maybe that when the grill was changed out that they found a street coupe hood.
Interesting info. never heard of a street coupe pickup, but while I've been a collector and restorer of A body Chevy's, I've been a long time mopar truck guy. I guess when the street coupes were out I must of been running a little red wagon and or a power wagon. |
