Original GM rocker panels, difference & cost ?
I am buying a 72 Chevy 4 x 4 LB today and the guy says he has a set of original GM rocker panels that I will also get with the deal. I think I have seen these things on EBAY sell for lots of money. My question is whats the difference between these and other panels, are they just heavier metal ? Also I may sell them and would like an idea of what they are worth.

The big difference is that the factory rockers have a rolled edge 1/2"-3/4" wide on the trailing edge. When installed properly (spot welded under the cab), a visible body seam will be present between the rocker/cab and is aligned with the "gap" between the rear of the door/cab.
The aftermarket rockers that I have seen installed do not show the seam. In the day, this was the tell-tale sign of a truck having replaced rockers. |
