FOR SALE: Vortec Heads
Sorry this is the wrong board for this, but I have recieved some helpful tips on here so I wanted to give you guys first dibs.
I have a brand new, in the box fully assembled, set of Vortec heads for sale. I bought them for my new motor, but now I can't use them. My block had been decked before so, now my compression would be too high with the 64cc chambers for my blower. I would like to get my money out of them $500 or I would trade for a set of used aftermarket heads with larger chambers.I will take a decent offer, too.

These heads will bolt directly on your sbc. You would only have to buy the edelbrock intake for Vortec heads. Nothing else needed. Also, I actually flowed one on the flowbench and they flow what AFR says they do. 239cfm on the intake. You have to spend almost $1000 on a set of heads to get that. I am impressed by the Vortec heads.

You will also need center bolt rocker covers with the Vortec heads

You need different rockers and valve covers for the vortec heads in addition to the manifold. Also arent they 58 cc chambers instead of 64 cc? Even with flattops that would put your compression well over 10:1. Theyre good heads but the motor must be built for them.
I'd probably trade you for my 72cc chamber sportsman II's but I'd have to change pistons too and my ratating assy is all balanced and it would screw that up.

They are definately 64cc. The fastburn aluminum vortecs are 58cc. If you run a flattop piston with a .039 head gasket and a standard deck height, you get about 9.3 to 9.5. Standard deck height is about .020". My problem is my deck is .003, I'm at about 10.25.
I could use a 72c head, that would put me in the low 9 range.

how about changing the pistons to the dished top for a lower ratio ?i know that could be a hassle if your block is already done. i hate to see you part with a *****en set of heads.

I didnt realize the iron heads were 64 cc. With my pistons It would put me at 11:1 which is too high for my blood. My next engine build will probably use vortecs though although I dont have any complaints about the sportsman II's .

You must be running a .100 dome piston. That would be tuff on gas unless you were at my altitude 6000ft. I run 11.5:1 in my corvette. I runs good on 91 octane here.

Yeah, I run .125" dome speed pro hypereutectics. It would put my compression a wee bit on the high side for 92 octane at sea level where I live.

From all of my research the last months the heads are definently 64 cc and a set of flattops with 4 brow reliefs will give you about maybe 9.4(9.6) : 1 compression and 2 brow reliefs should give a 10:1 compression.

67wyo chevy, I know you are trying to be helpful, but I think the proper board edict would be not to post comparable price options on someone elses "For Sale" post. Just a thought
