camaro clip model?

hey... i cant seem to find a complete frame for donor...what model camaro clip would be better, any difference? for a 58 short stepside...thanks

70-81 camaro make sure it is a front steer. the rear steer models are harder to make work

by front steer i mean the ones with the steering linkage attated to the front of the spindle (towards the front of the car), instead of the earlier years which had it attatch to the rearward side of the spindle.

i don't know about the camaro's, but i know the early nova's were rear steer, and the later ones (75-79) were front steer. i am using a 77 nova for my clip.

as far as specific years of camaro's being better for whatever reason, i can't help you there.

i'll tell you in a month or so. i still have to take the motor out of it and take the clip off of the nova. but i have measured everything a couple times and drwan some diagrams. it looks like it should work for me. i think the camaros and novas had the same subframe in the front, but not 100% sure on that.

i am using this one because i got the whole car for $500, and i am using the front clip, rear axle, tranny x-member, and maybe the front seat and steering column.

we have a 73 Nova clip on ours right now but it was installed for the truck to ride at stock height. The Camaro, Nova, Volare etc clips will drop the front end down by 5" on these trucks. I think we're gona cut ours off and install it properly

Dubie,tell me more about your Nova set up-I want my '57 to ride close to stock height because it's a work truck and gets off the pavement on occasion.

Our was fish plated to sit at stock ride height. The truck rides great but the welding job looks ****ty. All you do is weld a plate to your frame and them have the front clip sit 5" lower that that and weld the bottom of the plate onto it.

Why not consider a Mustang II clone, less cutting, a stock hieght can be purchased. Contact us direct for more details! The ones we sell do not require the iner fenders to get "HACKED OFF" rico

rico-my big concern with the Mustang 2 conversion is strength. I'm sure they work fine for most light duty trucks,but I WORK my truck ('57 GMC longbed 1/2 ton),and I'm not sure the M-2 front end could handle stuff like 40 miles of dirt road with 3 engines in the truck,or pulling my 35 foot fifth wheel,or flat towing a 2-1/2 ton truck home...
