something i always wondered was...what is the point at starting bidding below what the reserve is? not trieing to give you a hard time everyone does it but thought maybe you had some idea why...if you wont take that much for it why let someone bid that much...

I find myself bidding sometimes well below a reserve just because it would be such a cool item to have that if the owner decided to give it away, it may as well go on my truck!
but of course that has never happened, but I can dream!

The reason for starting low is to get the "bidding process" going. If he starts it at $500 alot of people won't bid. Somebody will wander if the next bid will meet his reserve so they might be inclined to bid. Then the next bidder thinks I might go a little higher and outbid him. This is the process the seller hopes for and then you hope a bidding war is started.

Thanks for explaining it for them,i have been out for a few, I have checked the shipping on that too...Thanks rage-n-rat!! I like the reserve thing,if it dont bring what i want, then i am not out anything...I wont tell you all what it is,but if you look,I think its a fair reserve for whats there...and i am losing on this anyway I really hate to let it go,but other projects and more imporant now..

I have sold on Ebay and like using a reserve . I get more for the items with a reserve . I think letting several bidders start low gets them involved with that item . Once they are outbid ,they bid again . the process repeats itself . They will pay a little more that way to keep ahead of the other guy. If you astrt something at $500 then you are likely going to get $500 . If you start it at $1 with a $500 reserve you are more likely to get $550 or better. You know how competitive people are . Sometimes I will also post my reserve late in the auction . That way if there is only one person willing to pay that for it , then he/she knows exactly what to bid . Once a person places a bid over the reserve , it goes to the reserve immediately . Plus with a reserve auction you only need the one bidder to sell it . Without a reserve it takes at least two bidders to push it up . I have found that it is well worth the cost of putting a reserve on it since the same item with a reserve seems to bring more than the one without one . But ........this is just my opinion and if you knew me , you would know that it aint worth much . Frank

I always hate to see those bidders with 0 feedback. Wonder if they're going to go through with the auction or just messing with you.

I sell to 0 bidders, look at it this way,you have to start somewhere? If they dont pay,in 10 days time(unless other arrangments are made) it gets relisted...and possible - feedback...i had to do that a few times allready... for Deadbeat bidders...
