New to the board, thought I'd say hi.
Hi guys~ I just found out about this site from the Pirates of the Rubicon site yesterday. I have had my 71 SWB for about 5-6yrs now and it has been in project stage for about 4yrs. I tour it apart the weekend before I found my first house so it got trailered and burried in the garage. I did alot of work to it and then just found a new (1928) house we just bought so it trailered once again. I now have a 25x45 shop to work on it and all my other toys. I live in Northern Cali near Sacramento in a small town called Winters. Population is about 6k and I am 15 min from Lake Berriessa. I work in the bay area as a superintendant for a metal framming co.
The truck started off stock but in real great shape. I then found some rust under the floor and covered up in the rain gutters so I found a new cab that is rust free. The truck sits on 335/35/17's in the back and 245/40/17's up front for now. I will end up with 18's and 20's when finished. It has an old kit from air ride tech I put on 5yrs ago and that is going to get replaced with their ride tech pro kit. The frame has been Z'ed 4" behind the cab. The truck has a 2" body drop done to it so the front and rear sections of the frame have been stepted to match things up. I moved the motor back in the frame 2" to make a bit more room in front for a super charger and the motor is a 93 vett LT1 so their is not a dist. to worry about. The tranny is a built up 700R4 with a custom tube cross member to allow the exhaust to run above the frame. The rear is a 12 bolt with 3.43's and an eaton posi. The truck is 4 wheel disk, PS, PW, CC, and A/C from vintage air. The bed has had the most work done to it so far. I have sectioned the inside 6" to make up for the 4" Z and the 2" body drop. At the tail gate floor it is stock height and 6" in it angles up at a 45 and then flatens out to the lifted bed floor. The bed ribs needed for this ramp came from the mini tub I did to tuck those 335's so all the bed ribs line up from tail to head. I used two sets of fender wells to build the tubs and keep all the lines looking stock through out the bed. The truck is ready to have the body shimmed on the frame to the correct height so I can check for body allignment prior to finishing the body work and paint. The frame is ready for sand blasting and powder coating then I will run all my lines and it will be ready for a painted body. Well this is as far as things have gotten so far. I will be a bit before I can get back on it due to I have another project I need to finish first. It is a rock crawler I am building for the rubicon. It is almost ready for testing and then Paint and PDR coating. Then the 71 chevy will get finished and after that I have a real clean 71 Ford bronco I am going to build a 2wd street rod out of. Well here are a few pics of my toys. I need to find the box with my build up pics of the truck so I can share more detailed shots of what I listed above. Well thanks for letting me rant on about my sh!t and I hope to meet as meany of you as I can here in the future. Kevin Winters 95694 |

Thanks Guys!
Yeh I am a fabricating nut. It is my drug of choice. I build everything from roll cages to full rolling chassies. Everything from rock crawlers to mall crawlers. I like to do all my own work so when we came accross this shop it had a house and granny unit that came with it. The lot is 10k sq/ft and the shop is 25x45 full concrete construction with an in ground pit ( soon to be filled in once the 4 post lift gets installed). The granny unit is small at 12x20 and 2 story. The house is a 1928 craftsman bungalow 1700 sq/ft and in need of alot of work. I have already put on a new roof, added two dormer on the front of the house to give more room in the attic for a future home theator. I am now re-wiring the whole property. It only has a 60amp service for all three buildings and it is all knob and tube construction. I am installing a 400amp service with a 200amp panel in the basement of the house and a 200amp panel for the shop that will feed a 100amp sub panel to the granny unit. Then the next big job is adding a second floor to the shop for a bar/ pool room that will be 25x30 leaving the other 15' open to the shop for the lift to have room for car stacking. I had a 1300 sq/ft home before w/a small 2 car garage that you could not park in with all my fab tools. Now I can set up my shop and be able to build almost anything I can think up. Once the buggy is done then I will be back on the chevy hard untill it is screeming down the road. I will try and find some pics of the work on the truck. Here is a before and after pic of my latest work on the house. Kevin |

Hi Kevin,
Welcome to the board from Sacramento. Very, very nice truck. Heck it was nice before it got low. Winters is one of my favorite places for breakfast whether it be by car or bicycle. Give me a holler some day and we can go to the Putah Creek Cafe at 2 Main Street. Tim Sacramento Quote:

Will do next time I am in Winters. Your house is probably easy to find. I might even bring my rough truck. Sunday going to Lucerne to see two project C10's, 1969 & 1972. Monday going to Pittsburg to get some parts and tell some lies with Green Horn.

Thanks guys, I have been here a few months now and last I checked this page was long since lost. Yes I do have alot of toys and most are not chevy but all are hand built (except the 71 bronco it's mostly stock) and still have a ways to go. I just picked up a 64 VW Notchback that is getting a full body off and a porsche 5spd hooked to a 2.5L turbo injected 4 cyl. It should put out about 250plus HP and kick the sh!t out of all the little honda's I also do alot of side work for all types of auto's. Right now I am rebuilding a 67 extended cab for a guy here on the board. It has turned into a project of takining a flat sheet of steel and hand forming all the parts needed to repair (except the four rocker covers). I am only a week or so into it but it will be a great ride when done. Then some day when my work list slows down I can get back on my truck.
