t350c extension housing?
does anyone know what is involved in removing the extension housing on a t350c transmission? my transmission shifts fine but there is a loud ticking noise coming from inside the area of the extension housing with every revolution of the driveshaft. what inside could be causing this? thanks.

to the best of my knowledge all that is in there is the speedometer gears. (plastic) and a little metal collar that will keep fluid from running out when you park on an incline.

There is an o-ring under the housing. When I pulled mine off, none of the parts stores could look up the part. The dealer had no problem.
I would check the gear before you pull the housing off. There really isn't anything else I can think of inside the housing that could make noise. There is a small metric bolt that holds a tab that keeps the "bullet" in. Remove the bolt, and the bullet and the speedo gear will pull right out so you can check them. If it leaks at the cable at all, the parts are surprisingly cheap to replace. A new bullet with new seal and o-ring installed and a replacement speedo gear cost me less than $6. Make sure you get the right speedo gear for your axle ratio. The folks at the shop told me they have a different color for each number of teeth, and you can just match it up by color. Here are my parts, and what I paid for them. Slonaker |

You might be hearing the weights on the governor clicking. The governor is located under the round cover at the rear of the trans on the left side. If you want to check it, just pop the cover off and the governor comes right out. Then you can see if you still hear the noise. Just a thought. Good luck.
