fuel filter thoughts

Right now my truck has a filter under cab were hose goes from cab to frame. And also has one between pump and carb. I have to rework my fuel line do I really need two? Thinking the one under cab before pump would be best and do away with the other one? Clean up under hood some also.

Both are just inline generic filters.

Re: fuel filter thoughts

I'd go the other way around.
The one under the cab makes the pressure in the line lower, and that can help to create vapor lock.
After the pump is the best place for a filter. If there is a bunch of crap in the tank...clean it out.

Re: fuel filter thoughts

Good point but I thought the pressure before the pump was not much and after the pump had much more pressure? And the filter after the pump would hinder pressure more?

Re: fuel filter thoughts

the pressure before the pump is in the negative... place a restriction ... esp by the tank... and it is a greater negitive. Less pressure means lower boiling point.
Place the restriction after the pump, and it raises the pressure a bit, which, I think you are old enough to remember the old pressure cookers... raise the pressure, raise the boiling point.

Re: fuel filter thoughts

Makes good sense maybe I will leave the on up front and rid the rear one.

Re: fuel filter thoughts

I have the filter under the cab on both my trucks. No problems with vapor lock, which is usually caused by the fuel line located to close to a heat source, such as exhaust. Biggest problem with filters under the cab is leakage, which usually is just enough to drain the pump and carb when parked for a couple of days. If you're using rubber line and hose clamps, a little Hylomar sealant will fix that. Best to use compression fittings.
