Re: Please help decode my motor

V=Flint Engine Plant
04= April
17=17th

As far as the FLF goes there is no such code .
It may be a TLF or a BLF
TLF= 1978 400c.i.
BLF= 1990 305c.i.
Oter possibilities are:
FLH
FLJ
FLK
FLL
FLK
FLM
FLR
FLS
FLW
These are all 85' 350 codes

You might want to go by the casting number on the rear of the block.

Re: Please help decode my motor

I would check the driverside first then the passengerside. It is difficult to access. A mirror helps. If you can clean the area off, a piece of clay to make an impressoin helps too.

Re: Please help decode my motor

Dont get your hopes up. It's not a 400 most likely not a 350 either, it's a moslt likely a BLF 305. is your harmonic damper (ballancer) 8in or 6in?

Re: Please help decode my motor

ok this is what I got from the drivers rear. "4010207"
The only nuber that is questionable is 401?207, maybe an 8,2< Not sure,best guess was a 0. Very hard to see back there............Maybe I was misled when I bought this truck. Was told it was a 350

Re: Please help decode my motor

My '86 305 actually has a big "305" cast into the block near the front in numbers about 3/4 in tall. You can see it from underneath, I think on the driver's side. You might see if yours has that.

Re: Please help decode my motor

weird thing is....dipstick on pass side, and I double checld the numbers 3 times, its a 350, 4 bolt main. truck motor, it may actually be the orig motor. I was told its 60 over,roller rockers,400hp. I believe it cause this truck is fast.

Yea, but Ive had 305's that were vituraly stock that people would crap thier pants driving.

Which site did you get the casting numbers from, www.mortec.com/ ? 1401207's can come in either 2 or 4 bolt flavors.

What is the VIN numbers 8th digit? I am betting it is either a G or H. C10's from 1981 - 1986 didn't have the 350 as an option in the US.

True. My 86 came with a 4.3L from the factory.

It doesn't mean anything, it is a digit included for a check, hence check digit.

No idea on the trans. That would be listed in the Options sheet in the glovebox.
