Question which mufflers?

My 85 sierra classic currently has 2.5 inch duals with flo-pro mufflers(14 inch cases) and an H-pipe the truck has a stock 350 motor. My question is which mufflers would you suggest for a deeper and mellower sound because my current mufflers are to damn loud for my liking?
Some people suggested Dynomax Hemi Super Turbos but after looking at these I'am little concerned how long they would last. Would certain models of Flowmaster or Magnaflow be a better choice?

Thanks Rob

Re: which mufflers?

I'm having the same problem -- used to think the Flo Pros were the best thing since sliced bread, but now that I've got my truck running again, dang she is loud!

I'm thinking I'm going to install a set of glass packs infront of the Flo pros, and see if that is able to make it a bit quieter.

u could go super 40's fom flowmaster. I have the 50's but the cab drone is bad. they have a nice low sound and i hear the 40's are better in the cab. Just don't go cherrie bomb or spin tech if u want them quiet

thats my 2 censts any way

Re: which mufflers?

I must be getting older because the noise is getting on my nerves and since I put the truck away for the winter this is something I would like to fix over the winter. Some people suggest Magnaflow over Flowmaster? Some people suggested Dynomax Hemi Super turbos but personally these muffler don't look like they would last very long. How much does a larger body muffler help this problem? Rob

Re: which mufflers?

I just put flowmaster 70's on mine. I had 40's but couldn't even talk on the phone. Luckily my neigbor just put 50's on his 78 GMC they were too loud for me. The 70's still have a low rumble but are very quiet in the cab. I hear the carb open up instead of the exhaust when I floor it. The 70's are twice as long as the 40's so you nead to cheak for fit.

Re: which mufflers?

I ran Dynomax Super Turbos on my truck with a 454, it wasn't loud at all and they are still good. They were driven on there for about 6-7 years.

Re: which mufflers?

Hey Chris, I have Dynomax super turbos as well. Maybe you can elaborate on how they sound with a 350 since you've heard mine a million times or so. (headers, straight duals, no converters, no H pipe)

I have Flowmasters on my truck and then I put some Dynomat in my cab, eliminated the drone and I still get the rumble when I drive.

Re: which mufflers?

For My Tast I Like To Hear My Exhaust In The Cab, Not Loud , But That Nice Resinating You Get At A Certin Rpm With Flowmasters.
Any Glasspacks Are Way To Loud For Me. Also A Tapered Or Megaphone Shaped Tip Can Give You Alittle More Volume, And Still Not Be To Loud.

Re: which mufflers?

Oh, I didn't notice the new guy from Birmingham. And, you know Chris. Must be nice to be around where you can talk with him whenever you feel like it. One great guy to talk with BTW.

I know I'm getting old. My ringing ears can't stand the noise anymore. I have went back to stock mufflers. I'm now running NAPA Quietflows. With my combination of cam, headers, dual 2.5" x pipe, etc., it sounds really nice. Not stock sounding but still not loud. Sort of reminds me of the way 70's performance cars sounded from the factory. Now I can listen to my tunes and not have to crank it up like a teenager just to hear them.

Re: which mufflers?

Thanks for input on the mufflers guys, I don't drive my truck year around thanks to the canadian winters. My concern with Dynomax was how long they would last also has anyone tried magnaflow mufflers. Rob

The Super Turbos have a lifetime warranty, if that means anything.

I've ran 40 Series with my X pipe and now I have Aero Chambers and they are my favorite of all I've ran so far.

Re: which mufflers?

hey i like the deep tone low and mean sound I was tuning my 73 350 and tried the mufflers up close to the headers and way back like at the bumper . It seamed to me that the mufflers way out back by the bumper were the deepest sound But looks made me put them in front of the rear end and I put 3 inch pipes on out to the side corners the rest was 2.5 . no h pipe ....... Here is a web site for sound of Flowmasters site .http://www.flowmastermufflers.com/sound.html copy it and past to get their.

Re: which mufflers?

I think I'm about to change my flows to some Dynomax bullets. Anybody ever heard them? Also, it's not my DD anymore...hell it hasn't even been cranked in about 5 months.

Re: which mufflers?

82BlackBeast had the Edelbrock mufflers on his truck (not sure if he sold it yet or not). I rode with him a couple times in his truck and they sounded good. Not sure what model they were though. Plus he had a 406 small block worked over that helped it out alot as well.

Re: which mufflers?

Thanks again for all the input. The guy at the local speed shop suggested Magnaflow but I,ve only heard these on cat-back systems. I'am not sure but the 2.5 inch duals on a stock 350 make my current system louder as well. How much does the size of the muffler affect the noise level?
