Did they use 17" wheels on 3/4tons? 67?
This truck here has some 17" spilt rims.(with true CO-OP tires) Are they original? Did they offer them then?
I guess this ol' gal was a true worker. Used to have a big tank in the back for cleaning up septic tanks(pooo!). The floor of the bed is dented and rusted beyond belief. I think it still runs good though. |

Yep, you could get them in 17x5" or 17x6". They were 3 piece rims, the actual wheel, clamp ring, and lock ring. That truck looks like it's in good shape. Does it have a coil spring rear?

I think it is. A tire or 2 is down right now. When they are all filled up this thing looks like a military vehcile. Tall-as* , skinny tires setting up high.

Re: Did they use 17" wheels on 3/4tons? 67?
My '68 C/10 was originally equipped with 17.5 x 5.25" rims. [not 17"] In 6 -lug for 1/2 ton. I understand the 17.5 also came in 8 -lug split rims for the 3/4 ton. Might be an L6 thing, the larger diameter compensating for the lower RPM range the sixes run in. My truck originally came with 7.00 x 17.5 6 ply bias tires, but in the late '70s, the 7.00s became obsolete and I had to run 8.00 x 17.5s. In the late '80s I went to 8R17.5LT radials.
I have heard the odd size was specified by some fleets and municipalities so employees wouldn't swipe company [city] tires. I think my truck was originally a fleet vehicle. Eventually I had run the hell out of them by 300,000 miles. The 17.5 x 5.25 corporate rims were no longer available. I tried 15 x 8 white spokes -- like my on '71 Jimmy -- but the smaller diameter was killing my L6, so I changed to 16 x 7 rims w/ 235/85/16 LT Dunlops.

Matbe it`s my eyes, but those don`t look like split rims. They were available both ways.UPS trucks always ran those, they were GM p-chassis for ever.

How tall are those tires anyway? The 7.5-16's on my truck were about 31.5" tall, and about as wide as a bicycle tire.
