Re: AC bracket/header clearance

You should be able to modify the stock bracket to fit around the header tube. If I remember correctly you have to cut part of the bracket off and clearance the bracket to get it to fit. You will probably also have to use a stud and some spacers on the first one or two header bolt locations. I had to do this on a truck a few years back.

I have to do this to my current truck in the next few days.

Re: AC bracket/header clearance

Cut the back of your bracket like his picture shows . Then take one of the original bolts that has the studded end from one of the first two holes . Run a 3/8 inch nut on the threads that originally went into the head . Thread the stud through the header just like a header bolt and use the nut to tighten against the header . The other end is the studded end that should be in the same place it was (same spacing) as when it was originally installed in the cast iron manifolds . Then you can place the bracket over the stud , use another nut to secure it to the stud , and it should be good to go . This is how I di the A/C on my 77 I had in High School . I hope it makes sense because it is the easiest way that I found to mount the AC without having to buy an extra bracket . Frank

Re: AC bracket/header clearance

Thanks, but I think my bracket is different. There is a piece that bolts between the second and third header bolt. I think I will try to find the same bracket that you have. It will be much easier.

Re: AC bracket/header clearance

That bracket seems to be pretty common on trucks and Impalas

Re: AC bracket/header clearance

You are doing the right thing. Don't try to run without that bracket. I cracked my compressor by running without it.

Re: AC bracket/header clearance

Do the different brackets go with different compressors? Or will the other bracket work with my comp.? The reason I ask is arent there like 3 different comp. for these trucks?
