What kind of drop shocks?

I just recieved my drop springs for my truck, 3" front and 5" rear drop coils. Im curious to see what kind of shocks I should get and maybe relocators. What do you all suggest?

Chris

Monroe #33033 up front. They're same top and bottom as stock and a little shorter. I had my first set for 6+ years, and liked them very much. Replaced them last year with the same. BTW, this is what ART ships with their kit. Oh, and did I mention that they're ! $28 each

I remembered the fronts off the top of my head (easy number and all). I'll have to do a search for the rear part number. My truck is fairly low, BTW...

#32077 for the rears.

Also, the only value I see in the adjustable Panhard bar is that you get to adjust it... once. After you've got the rearend centered, there's no value in it being adjustable. Also, with a static drop, you're really not going to benefit from the longer Panhard bars because you won't have a whole lot of suspension travel as compared to a bagged rear. In the case of the bagged rear, the peak-to-peak excursion is in the 8-10" range, so the longer bar reduces the arc the bar travels, and so reduces the side motion of the rearend as the suspension travels up and down. For a static rear, you're looking at 2-4" of real-world spring travel.

In my opinion, yes. when you lower the truck 5" in the rear, the rearend WILL shiift slightly to left of center (less than an inch), and that's where it will stay (unlike bagged systems, which get moved up and down). If you want to get the rearend re-centered, you can lengthen the stock Panhard bar, or move the left side frame mount to the right a little (it's riveted, so you can pop the rivets out, move to the right edge of the left frame channel, drill, and bolt.).

Re: What kind of drop shocks?

For those of you with extreme drops, I just did a reverse lookup of a comparable top/bottom mount for the rear that has shorter dimensions than the stocker

Stock = 32301
top mount LS37, bottom mount LS37, compressed 11.875, extended 18.250, travel 6.375

Shorter unit = 33076
top mount LS37, bottom mount LS37, compressed 10.000, extended 14.625, travel 4.625

Still shorter unit = 34839
top mount LS37, bottom mount LS37, compressed 9.750, extended 14.750, travel 5.000

Even shorter unit (requires small mod to bottom mount) = 37187
top mount LS37, bottom mount L1/CP5, compressed 9.375, extended 14.250, travel 4.875

Re: What kind of drop shocks?

I've had stock, toxic and doetsch tech's on my 78 with a 5" front drop. The worst were the toxics, they sucked bad. Stock was ok, doetsch techs are a dream. Also use doetsch techs on my 98 with 5" up front, rides great.

I swapped out Toxics for DT's on my '99 Tahoe (6/8 drop) and they worked great.
