A Pillar Gauge pod
Hi, I am looking to find a 2 or 3 Gauge pod that would fit on the A pillar of my 84. I'm not too hot on mounting them under the dash. If noone has ever heard of it. Please give me your thoughts on a creative gauge setup. Thanks in advance
Chris

Re: A Pillar Gauge pod
To the best of my knowledge, nobody makes pillar pods for our trucks. SO, here is my setup...
http://www.73-87.com/7387garage/inte...ge_surface.htm Here is Mikes... http://www.73-87.com/7387garage/inte...s_recessed.htm Another option... http://www.73-87.com/7387garage/inte...ashmounted.htm Hope this helps some, and welcome to the board from Minnesota.

Re: A Pillar Gauge pod
My son had one on the pillar, he bought it at autozone or checker, can't remember which. It did not fit to well and the angle of the gauges was a little high, at least for me. He finally took it off and went with the option Jeff & Mike used.

Re: A Pillar Gauge pod
I have been trying to get companies to make these for me to sell for over a year now and EVERYONE of them has rejected it due to the shape of the pillar and are not willing to commit to development. I am at 3 rejections so far... They typically take about 2 months to tell me no and then I have to demand them to send my pillars back. The last company sent it back in a loose box and broke one of them...

Have you tried this company? http://www.gaugepods.com/custom.html Surely there's enough people here (and at other forums) that would make it worth their while. BTW, some guys are using Autometer part# 15198 or Jegs part# 105-15198 which I believe is for a Dodge truck. It seems to fit okay, but the angle of the gauges is not right. See pics. I was actually thinking of making one out of fiberglass. I'll just add that to my to-do list. |

Don't expect to make any money on them either if you get other models made by them. They will sell them to whomever they want and you will have NO rights to the product. Basically you are creating their inventory for them... Quote:

I dont' get it. If there's enough people that want them, why don't they make them? I don't care about rights to the product. I just want one. |

The number of people wanting them has nothing to do with making them, I have the money to invest in the product even if I am the only one that wants them. I am willing to purchase all of the initial numbers if someone will produce the mold.

Re: A Pillar Gauge pod
It seems to me that most companies think all of our trucks are nothing more than work trucks or farm trucks. When are they going to get the picture we actually mod these things.
What I do (did) is make my own. I get tired of not being able to find what I want or broken promises from places saying they are coming out with something soon. You would think with all the thousands of our body style trucks, companies would wise up. A lot of them are loosing money by ignoring us 73-87 guys.

Re: A Pillar Gauge pod
Mike, are you talking about your console or an actual pillar gauge pod?
If you are talking about an actual pillar gauge pod that you made we want pictures!

Re: A Pillar Gauge pod
No Eddie. I was talking about my gauges.
http://www.73-87.com/7387garage/inte...s_recessed.htm They did come out with a set not long after I built mine, but at a very steep price and of course smaller gauges. |

Re: A Pillar Gauge pod
Those pics don't look too bad. I guess i'd rather do that than mount them under the dash. But if anyone else would be willing to spark up a group purchase for that site listed. I'd be in. Anyone else?

Re: A Pillar Gauge pod
Chris, what about a "slip on" gauge pillar? Basically make it 6" long or whatever, and have it slip over the existing stock pillar piece. When painted or dyed to match the actual pillar, it would look pretty good IMO. Should be easier to make too. I know they make this style for other "popular" vehicles out there.

Re: A Pillar Gauge pod
That is what guauge pods makes are slip on models.
I have tried and want either/both styles, they still say no and I have to make them send them back... Money isn't an object, demand isn't an object, feedback from other owners isn't and object. Finding a company that will ACTUALLY do it IS. Everyone of them that I talked to said "Sure, it should be no problem, just send them to us and we will take a look at them and get you an ETA/Price..." A few weeks later I call for and update and they say; sorry, but due to the original design it isn't possible for us to do this. And I say when are you sending them back and they say, OH, you want them back... I have used my connections with Dakota Digital, Coverlay, and still get the same response. I haven't given up, I just haven't found someone to commit to it. Most of these places are VACUUM formed, which is where the biggest problem comes from... I still have some more out there to check, but I am not going to put out any broken promises until I actually have someone that has it in house and is ACTUALLY working on them and not SITTING on them... I made that mistake a while back and won't do it again.

Re: A Pillar Gauge pod
I've seen some of you guys fab up some neat things to go in our trucks. I think if some of you guys were to fab up some pillar gauge pods from fiberglass you could make a little profit doing so. I seen a guy do speaker pods on the pillars, so I know a gauge pod is definitely doable.
