TRans and engine question
heres a question for all you experts....If I was to put a 396 with a big cam in it that requires it to run a high stall converter such as a 3000 orbetter, how do you run an overdrive automatic with it when the stall speed is higher than the cruising rpm of my truck.

I have wondered this my self.
i am guessing (and that's all this is, is a guess) that when the lock up kicks in, it bypasses the high stall. So basicly, it will be slipping a little all the way up to lock up. But you'll spend a butt load of $$ to get an O/D tranny to hold up to a cammed out big block and a 3K verter. |

I am running a 700r4 behind a 427 with a pretty big cam (Performer RPM). This cam starts getting with it at about 3000 RPM. The car stalls at about 2700 RPM. There are circumstances where the stall and the OD clash but is usually at low speeds. As longhorn stated, it really is not an issue once the converter locks up.

So what you are saying is to throw a manual lockup switch on your dash to lock up the converter....??????

The trans is wired to automatically lock in 4th. There is a manual switch if you want to lock the converter in any other gear.
