Question what makes the drum brakes self adjust ?

on our thucks..mines a 69 c-20 power drums on all 4 , what other than removing the front wheel and adjusting, makes them self adjusting?

1 backing up and stopping
2 using the e-brake.. this won't help the fronts
3 regular use. driving


any help, for us drum brake club folks

I have always heard that it is #1 that makes them self adjust.

A brake adjustment lever or screwdriver in the slot on the backing plates.

yup. the fronts don't have a adjustment hole in the rear you have to pull the wheels and go thur the the drum..the ball joints and such are in the way,

I believe #1 but it only works half a$$ and not very long after there not brand new anymore. Special-k has it right.

well went to adjust the brakes with the adjusting tool on the rears,

the passenger rear clicked up fine,, the right no clicky pulled the drum, the adjuster lever was laying inside with the spring..reinstalled and adjusted it up.. i hope it stays in place, it's got to help the right rear was backed all the way off...
