Front Track Narrowed

I want to remove the static drop spindle/coil set on 68 and go with spindle/bags. Would also like to narrow the front track width. Saw a truck this past weekend at SS show in Indy that was narrowed 2.5" and it really improved the look around the front fenders. He had shortened the tubular arms himself. I am not a fab guy and would probably botch this up. Does anyone sell a-arms upper and lower for 67-72 trucks allready shortened to narrow the track?

Thanks 1LOWC10 I had looked at their site. They offer them for specific cars but they do not show for c10s. I probably just need to call them and ask the right questions. I was trying to avoid the total cost of new xmember Im not trying to go that low just cover the top of the tires.

I agree go with the Dropmember and re-use all your stock parts. This saves money and gives you a rack and pinion steering set up as well as using stock easy to find parts.

I would also go with the dropmember if you have the money. Nathan seems to have done his homework on this, making sure the geometry is right and using stock or aftermarket pieces

If money's tight, I have a magazine article scaned and put into a .pdf showing IF customs narrowing the stock front control arms on a 65 Burb that I can send you via e-mail (too big to post here). I honestly don't know how it would affect the geometry of the suspension though. Just PM me your e-mail address and I'll send it on it's way.

Drop member looks like the only way to get the narrowed track I want. I gotta find out if Porterbuilts system will work with big block, Im old school and thats a must have. Looks like he is working on a complete system sale price and I have some time since the $$$ are going up. Thanks for hooking me up with porterbuilts thread, that guys knows his stuff from what I can tell. Still going to call Fatman and see what they have, not sure if I want to convert to rack steering. Man I have already purchased everything new when I went with static drop.

Well I have decided to just go with the AR arms and bags and cut my cost. I think I can get some of the narrowed look with 225's and backspacing. Need to spend more money on body work and drive train. One its drivable I can go back and do the xmember if the money holds out. Thanks for the input guys

What are the benefits of narrowing the track width? Id love to get that drop member too, but its very expensive! Im planning on buying a crossmember out of the junkyard and section the center out of it instead to raise the suspension.

Narrowing the track moves the tires in towards the frame allowing better clearance for the tires. Check out some of the lowered trucks without narrowing and wide tires up front and the outside face if the tire is pretty close to the fender, must be raised to steer. Narrowing also looks very good, my opinion.

I'm not convinced you get any real steering benefit. Narrowing the track width may get you an inch or two of fender clearance, which will improve your turning radius to about 11 miles (from 12 ). And, you're now 1-2" closer to the frame rail.

Also, if you want a narrower track, playing with backspacing is a whole lot easier than cutting up suspension components.
