Leaf spring dilema

I need to replace the rear springs on my 64 GMC which as you know are 2 1/4 wide , the spring shop and mail order co.'s want $400 ( too rich for me ) anybody switch to a newer (read cheaper ) spring . I only plan on pleasure usage (she's paid her dues at this age) heck if I found a complete coil set-up really cheap I would put it in.
