airline fittings: tef tape or pipe dope

Are you guys having better luck with teflon tape, or pipe dope? I can get either for next to nothing since I work in the plumbing biz. The pipe dope we stock is rated for air/gas, etc.

I've used both with the same results. I prefer using the dope... (sounds kinda funny )

I have used all three and seem to have better seals with the loctite type sealer. The fittings that come pre coated I think are loctite coated. I wouldn't drive cross town to get it but if its available I use it. If you use a liquid type sealer don't glob it on, a little goes a long way and to much can clog the valves.

Ive always been told to use the Loctite but Ive always used teflon without any issues. Just dont overtighten with the Teflon.

Re: airline fittings: tef tape or pipe dope

cool, thanks guys. I'm gonna stick w/ the teflon tape. I bought the rest of my fittings today to finish up. Got all brass DOT airline fittings. WOW, the price has gone up!! I guess since the price of brass/copper has gone up almost 40% in the last 6 months. I got the push-to-connect fittings at a hydraulic/hose supply company in town and luckily my company has an account w/ them so I got a good discount, but dear lord I didn't expect to pay so much for all them.

Re: airline fittings: tef tape or pipe dope

I've got the push-lock fittings with teflon tape on my front suspension. It's been aired up since June 6th and is still inflated really well. I can't say if it has lost any pressure, as I don't have gauges hooked up, just using schrader valves. But from what I can tell, it's still holding just fine.
