Smile Today was a good day................................... emissions

I put on the vacuum lines and misc. crap I need to pass emissions and went on my lunch break today. Everything felt good the rid there, but I still wasn't sure. Passing is a gamble for me. Sometimes I pass and sometimes I fail. Usually the failure is due to driver, you are not allowed to drive your own here. Anyway today went well and passed with flying colors - check it out!

Plus I got a couple UPs packages coming today, not truck related though but still exicting.
For the curious I got some gun parts coming and a video card for a computer someone gave me for free. Everything is cool with the free computer, but its needs a better video card for gaming. Its arrives today so me and my girlfriend can play Battlefield 2 at the same time. This weekend is starting out great :-)

Great job!

I'm so glad that we don't have emission testing here...

Re: Today was a good day................................... emissions

Wow. Thanks for rubbing it in :p

I'm going to swap out my thermostat today, then drive it through the station for the 6th time.

Yes, 6th.

2 carb rebuilds, a few tweaks and all sorts of things later, I'm now hoping and praying to pass by the end of the day.

Should you see a blue '81 with a white tailgate at the Scottsdale station later, say hi. It's me.

Just a thought couldn't you use a set of cable operated exhaust cutouts and quiet mufflers and divert some of the exhaust through them and possibly hook up oxygen injection into the exhaust system to take care od the CO problem(JUST FOR INSPECTION)

Re: Today was a good day................................... emissions

Emmisions testing is such a joke here in Ga. They only test in 9 counties arround Atlanta. Atleast 1/2 of the long commuters come from outside those 9 counties so those people are the ones that are poluting the enviroment by there 2 hour commutes and they dont have to have a test. I say state wide or none at all!!!!

I got tired of dealing with the ass backwards way the state deals with it and altered my fleet of vehicles to only those that dont require emmisions testing.
I own over 20 registered vehicles and only one needs an emmisions test and its a Honda with no problems.

GVW vehicles over 8600
Diesel vehicles
Vehicles over 25 years old

Off the top of my head, I passed 2 out of 3, but I blew 66 out of 40 on the CO I think. It's the middle one, whatever that is, and it's fuel/heat related.

Re: Today was a good day................................... emissions

My '77 Sub is hit-or-miss on emissions testing, also. I rebuild my carb every year or two, that seems to do the trick. I think it's ridiculous that a vehicle almost 30 years old even has to be tested, let alone tested every year....

Re: Today was a good day................................... emissions

KDUBAZ dump a small bottle of rubbing alchol in the tank, it worked on a 76 f*rd w/ a 460 the guy at the testing site was puzzled and my 86 350 everything wasn't set right either but it passed. Same for my sons 80 and ny other sons 78 w/ a 454, went right through. Call me nuts but it seems to work.

Re: Today was a good day................................... emissions

i spent all week getting mine ready for emissions. went yesterday and failed miserably. came home and messed with the carb a little and took it back today and failed again but it was a little better. so i figured i would go down and apply for a waiver. well i get there and they run the truck and it passes with flying colors. i think they were just tryin to screw me at the local emissions place. bastards

They probably connected the sensor to your trailer hitch, some new kinda square exhaust system or something, lol.

Re: Today was a good day................................... emissions

Get someone with a motorcycle to get an inspection and pop the sticker in your windshield since they just hand it to you for a bike. Not that I would ever do that. Or use a hairdryer to heat and remove the sticker from your newer vehicle and put in the beater, not that I have ever done that either. Spray some windex on the back after installed and rub it a little bit and no more writing, not that I have done that either. And I don't even have emissions where I live, they are kinda picky about cracks in your windshield though!

Re: Today was a good day................................... emissions

They mail you a sheet here, you hand them the sheet with your vin number on it. They check the vin on the dash or door, if they don't match the sheet you fail.

I seriously think there is issues with the emissions tests here.
You even saw the proof in the other thread. Same truck, different driver, tested minutes apart with way different readings. Fail at one facility and drive to another immediately afterwards and get different readings. I'm telling you guys, something it up.

All of these tests were on the same day. One right after another. Only minutes apart.
Notice the changes in HC and CO.

Re: Today was a good day................................... emissions

Took it for emissions on Sat.

Well I would've if I had made it there. Truck died and I had to get it towed home.

So... I ended up putting on a new edelbrock intake manifold and carb, now we've just got to get it running and try it all with this.

Re: Today was a good day................................... emissions

Congrats Phoenix, I know how you feel, have it every other year up here, and the rare occasion that I've blown OK the first try it's been like hitting the lottery. I'm not sure who's more surprised me or the testers at how happy I am when it passes.
