Steel tubing cost?
I was just quoted $574 from metalsupermarkets for 3 peices of 20' 2x4 3/16" tubing. That's about $191 each. Does that sound right? I have never bought this type of metal before, so I have no idea. I'm building a full frame for my 68 if your wondering...

Re: Steel tubing cost?
When i bought some 2x4 3/16 it was $100-121 a 20' stick. I don't remember exactly but that sounds high. Also is there a reason why you want to use 3/16. I have spoken to a few different shops that build there own custom frames and they all recommend using 1/8 and then gusseting where the pieces of metal meet. I know this is a controversy subject because i asked this question on this thread a while ago. I have a thread in the 67-72 general section and i am building my own frame. You should check it out. I went with 1/8 tube an i am planing on gusseting all the connections. 3/16 is really heavy and after you have messed around with it i think you would agree that it is overkill. Make sure when you weld 2 pieces together that you "V" the metal so when you weld you weld both sides of the steel. I hope that makes sence. If not let me know and i can take some pics for you. Sorry for the long paragraph!
Good Luck Josh

Re: Steel tubing cost?
I just physically looked at the difference in 1/8 and 3/16 and I know exactly what your saying. 3/16" seems like overkill. I think 1/8 is plenty with good welds and gussets. What did you pay for your 1/8?

Re: Steel tubing cost?
That's whats cool about being so close to the border(Mexico) i buy all my metal over there, machine work and parts. They end up costing 1/2 the price.
