drop spindle
Forgive my ignorance, but the PO had put disc brakes and spindles on the front of my truck b4 I got it and I'm trying to figure out if they're 73-87 spindles or if they are aftermarket drop spindles. My truck is bagged and at full dump I still have like 2 inches or so between the concrete and the front crossmember. My cups are cut down to 1/2" in height, so they are not limiting me. Anyone have any pics of drop spindles vs. stock spindles so I can identify what I have? I tried looking at McGaughys and Belltech but their sites aren't so hot for detailed pics.

Re: drop spindle
Drop on the left, stock on the right:
Notice the stock spindle is near the bottom, level with the tie rod mount. Last edited by jimmydean; 10-20-2006 at 08:46 PM. Reason: stock spindle |

Re: drop spindle
What are the differences between the 71-72 spindles and the 73 and up? I was wondering because my truck is 5 lug with disc and I don't know what kinda spindles they are to buy parts for it.

Re: drop spindle
There isn't a whole lot of difference other than they used different upper ball joints in 71-72 than on 73-up. Haven't tried to swap the balljoints in the two different arms but I do know that is one of the main differences.

Re: drop spindle
I can't say for sure if they are the same. I do know, however, that you can swap the brake calipers from the two. The only change I had to make was where the "banjo"style fitting bolts in, you have to do a little grinding for it to seat right and get a good seal.
