Has anyone else ever had this problem? I have been hearing a sqeel off and on and decide to check it out. I found that my wheel weights were ground down from the drop spindles. They are ECE spindles and I'm still runin the 15 in ralleys. I guess the noise will quit when they either grind down enough or I have the wheels rebalanced. Just wondered if anyone else has experienced this.

Pull the weights off ! Mine were rubbing after I put my drop spindels on and before I new they were rubbing I ended up cutting a tire. I think the weight got pinched between the bottom of the control arm and the wheel and sliced the side wall like a knife.. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED !!!! I HOPE THIS HELPS.

I got mine from gmc paul and I had to use 1/4 inch or 1/2 spacers (cant remember) just so they would spin and once balanced the weights didnt last the ride home. 15inch rallys.

next time you have the wheels rebalanced, ask them to put tape weights on. they function the same without being in the way.

With truck weight on the wheel, take a look. Chances are that its the end of your A-frame around your ball joint that is too close to the wheel. You need to relieve some of this material. Da a little at a time until it moves up and down without rubbing the wheel. Worked with my 8X15 rally wheels. The a-frame sits in a different attitude with the dropped spindle than it does with the stock one. Good luck!

I've heard of this happening with McGaughy's (sp?) spindles, never ECE. I am interested - has anyone ever had this happen with 16" wheels?

Yep, ECE spindles will rub with a 15x8 wheel. I have had guys tell me that a 15x7 rally will work with no clearance issues. More than likely you are rubbing the lower control arms. You could always grind off the offending material and then box the bottom of the control arms like the old school hydraulic hopping guys do.

Yup. Been there done that. I am runnin 15x7 wheel vintique vette rallies and western spindles. First time it hit I was runnin about 90 on a curve and the wheel flexed and it sounded like a sledge hammer hit my truck and it was gone. I switched to stick on weights behind the center of the rim and haven't had a problem since. I don't believe 16 inch wheels would pose a problem unless they are really reversed. Its a scary feeling for sure.

Shifty, it's so close to clearing on a 15'' wheel I can't imagine a 16'' would have any problem unless they had some serious backspacing.

That's typically why they rub: too much back-space for drop spindles

FWIW, I have Bell Tech 3" spindles on my 74. The lower a-arm lip never rubbed @ all w/15x6.5" van ralleys but they do rub on my 18x8" TT2's. The van ralleys were less than 4"BS & the TT2's are 5.25"BS.

I have to use stick on weights or find a really good tire guy that knows how to work the tire on the rim for a zero balance.

I am running ece spindles with my 15x8 (five lug) ralleys, and no problems with the wheel weights....

I had the same prolem with Mcgaughy spindles but switched to ECE and have no more problems. I'm running 15x8 Vette ralleyes up front

My question to JSB is what width wheels is he running? I am currently mocked up with 15x8 rallys on ECE drop spindles but will probably run 15x6.5 ralleys.

Hey Steven B: I want to run the same setup you have (2.5 ECE spindles and 15x8 Corvette rallys). You say you have no issues with clearance issues between the wheel and control arm. Can I ask if you know what the backspacing is on your front wheels? I see that Wheel Vintiques offers a 4" or a 4.5" backspace. I can go with a 15x7 but really don't want to (currently running 15x10 front and rear with stock suspenstion).

I've had them scrape the weights on regular truck rally's with 4'' BC.
