We Need "STICKY" Post for GM Part Numbers

I think this section and the other main sections as well, need a sticky thread for nothing but GM part numbers for our Trucks.

Alot of the 73-87 parts are still available from GM. When customers order parts from restoration companies, such as LMC, Chevy Duty, the GM part numbers would be helpful to have for the next person if the part was an original GM part. And alot of times, you can take this number to your local GM Parts Dept and order the part number yourself for less than it would cost to order it from the restoration companies. If you had the part number then there wouldn't be an excuse for the parts counter help not to be able to fine the part in their computer.

Maybe if we get enough, then they could be grouped according to a basic area of the vehicle. Like ENGINE, WEATHERSTRIP, DASH & RELATED, ELECTRICAL, etc.

I will post some numbers this weekend for some common parts that someone is bound to need sooner or later! By the way, in the Classic Industries catalog, every part number that begins with a GM is a direct from GM part! FYI

I still think it should be in each section so there is no confusion when someone posts part numbers with no date listed. But then again when it is something custom or different than what came on the truck, then maybe its a good thing.

I will paste these numbers on there that I have posted.

That's a good idea. Then we could put a sticky for tire wheel combo's, and one for lowering, and one for carbs, and.....

That's why we have an FAQ forum so we don't have a bunch of stickies at the top of each forum.

Well ok then, I was simply stating opinion.

Don't get me wrong I like this site alot, I am on here everyday. But finding areas to post topics is getting complicated on this website. The FAQ section in my opinion, would be better suited for the particular area, such as the 73-87 Trucks, Engine & Drivetrain, etc.

No problem. Your input along with everyone else is appreciated. I was simply trying to explain to you why we don't do it (again).

In the past, we have had stickies at the top of the forum and got lots of complaints about the forums looking cluttered. To clean things up we created more forums and moved things there. Then people complained that we had too many forums so we removed some of them. So people complained about us removing them and now they want us to have more forums and put stickies at the top of them.

Trying to please the majority is a full time job.....

What we should do is get somebody to scan it all in and we could look up whatever we needed. So far I only have the '74 Service manual and the '76 suppliment, but I also have the 74-90 Mithcell's Parts and labor guide for domestic trucks and vans. I'll help any body I can.
Seems like I read on here some where somebody had Hollaneders on their computer, I'd love to have a copy of that !!!

Problem is that that just the 73-78 parts catalog is almost 2 inches thick. the 79-84 is about 2 1/2 inches thick. Plus, you need the the catalog to translate superseeded numbers to the newer numbers. If anybody ever needs a number, just post. I have the parts manuals from 73 - 85 and can find most numbers. The Mitchell books are good, but don't have everything.

Seems to me like having all the useful info in one place (FAQ) is pretty simple.

The entire purpose of the FAQ is to keep it simple. You organize every year of Chevy truck into multiple sections and then have multiple posts on each one about part number etc. cluttering up the MAIN info forum for that particular subject and that is keeping it simple?

Check the tude at the door, and think these ideas through first. There is one single area for things like wheel and tire combos, Part # posts etc. It lets them be in an area accessible to all without cluttering up the forums. You want to clutter up the forums making other posts disappear or be harder to find in order to keep them simple?

If you would like a part # posts, as was previously stated please by all means create one, in the FAQ area where it belongs. It could be more useful as a sticky, but so could a dozen other subjects all deserving of the same recognition. That is why the FAQ was created, so we could cover all the common and important knowledge bases in one place without disrupting the flow of new info or questions on the forums.

As far as the FAQ goes, I do understand the reasoning. What I do not understand is why there is so may FAQ sections, and not a way to categorize them. On this page, http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/f...splay.php?f=28, there is a Sub-Forums : FAQ, which is great that there is a FAQ Truck Tech, FAQ Site Related, and Shop Safety (excpet the TRUCK TECH is naturally a little cluttered of course) and then theres "Threads in Forum : FAQ". But how come the threads in this latter thread are listed like this and the other ones are in the other files.

As I type this I realize how childish bickering over a design of a forum/website. I don't know wether to just stop and let it slide or what. I only originally wanted to offer a source for people like myself that want to have quick access for GM part numbers for my own use and for whomever else wants to have the numbers. As far as checking my "TUDE", I was just using the same tone as was given me. Once again, I feel that I have the right to do so, no matter what my "forum position".

There is also a sticky post at the top that serves as a temporary index as the area has been a work in progress

This post has outlived its use and is now closed. If you want to help PM and let us know. If not, deal with the way it is until someone else is able to spend 30 hours or so redoing it.

What you see in there is a compilation of posts made on various forums. There has been a lot of effort to organize them as best as possible, but consider that they originated from various locations on the forum and were not posted in a common format.

Some are well written in article format, and some are just random posts that turned out to have a great amount of information in them.

We are trying hard to have a forum that is pleasing to the masses while being easy to navigate. As I stated above, that is no easy task but we continue to try.
