rear wheel stud help

I will try and make this as short as possible. I am trying to replace to stock rear wheel studs on Yeller with some longer ones, to work better with my rear wheels (Weld Pro Stars). With the rear wheels installed, and using the longest mag wheel lug nuts, I am not getting enough thread grip IMO. The problem I am having is that nobody makes a longer stud for my application...only stock length.

So, has anyone here dealt with this on their truck? If so, what did you do?

Here are the specs for the studs I am looking for.

1/2 x 20 thread
.53 knurl
2" in length, minimum
press fit

Help if you can. Thanks.

Question Re: rear wheel stud help

Jeff, theres two dimensions for the knurl the lenght and the diameter what one are you refering too?

And are you sure about that dimension because most are listed with three digits like .485 or .565

You have .53 if thats thousaths that's only 3/64 of an inch and that can't be right for either dimension.

At any rate ARP will custom make fastners any dimension you specify it may be a little costly but you'll have what you want.

I've looked at a few sites and i dont see anything in a 1/2x20 TP like your looking for.

Re: rear wheel stud help

I had to do this for my front wheels. I got mine from Napa. They were for something else but all the specs matched except the threaded portion is longer. I have a napa catalog for this at work so I will look tonight and see if there is one for the back. I'm pretty sure I looked it up before and highlighted it.

Re: rear wheel stud help

Throwing an idea, I don't remember what yeller is, but have you asked about 3/4 ton studs or even 1 ton SRW? Or studs for a newer 2500HD or something.

Re: rear wheel stud help

Knurl size is .535...sorry about that.

I have been to several auto parts stores, and the closest thing to what I need is only 1/4" longer, and the knurl size is .530. Not exactly what I need.

I may have to contact ARP and see what they say about custom orders.

Keep the ideas coming if you have any, and thanks for all the help thus far.

Re: rear wheel stud help

drag racers have to use longer studs to pass inspection. Check out moroso and places like that, it should be fairly standard

Moroso, ARP, and Moser...none of them carry my application (I have checked).

Now if I owned a Camaro, Chevelle, Mustang, etc....

These were the sites i was refering to yesterday that i went to.

I was also gonna sugest you knock one stud out of an axle and take it with you to NAPA and see if they could match something up close to what your looking for.

You may also want to look up a driveline shop in the yeller pages that sets up rear ends for racing and go there they may be able to help you out.

That's about all i can think of at this time.

Good luck.

Re: rear wheel stud help

You can poke around on the Dorman site here: https://www.dormanproducts.com/cgi-b...36422&item_no=

I looked for some longer studs for my Suburban, I ended up using the 610-192 (1/2"-20, 2.00" long, knurl = .560", shoulder length = 11/16"). The problem is the shoulder length is a little much, and they were hard to install (I didn't have a press at the time). I used them on my (now removed) rear disc brakes, so the shoulder length didn't hurt me any.

Maybe you can find something that works for you...

Re: rear wheel stud help

What is the thickness of the center of the Welds you have ? I havent owned Welds for many years but all of mine used the 1.75 inch shank lug nut . the only problem I have ever had was with the Weld XP series . I bought the lugs from Weld and have used McGaurd . Mcgaurd is the better lug . Frank
