drop coils
Hey guys,I am going to replace the coil springs on my 72 c-10.The previous owner took a torch and heated the front and back springs. He also put 2" spacer-blocks on the rear. The truck actually looks great, but it rides like crap, very chopy.I was thinking maybe 3" drop coils in the front and 4" drop coils in the rear with no spacer-blocks.Am I headed in the right direction? Will the truck ride any different with drop coils??? thanks

Re: drop coils
My thoughts would be to lean more towards a dropped spindle with normal "factory" springs in the front and maybe just a block in the back depending on how much drop you are looking for. The reason being is that the shorter springs have a much higher spring rate to support the wieght of the truck and in turn will ride rougher than a factory type of spring. Be careful in the rear though, once you start using shorter springs and blocks you put the axle really close to the frame rail and you will have a tendency to bottom out on the bumpstops due to the shorter travel, so a C-Notch might be necessary to maintain a good ride quality.

Re: drop coils
In my opinion.....make it a 4/6 drop. I think it looks the best, and is still usable. Do this by a 2.5" drop spindle, 1.5" drop spring for the front, and 6" drop rear. EarlyClassic.com has these. I'm runnign their 2" drop front springs.

Re: drop coils
I am also going to buy the lower springs for the rear but am at a toss up as to what height to buy. I in the front have a 2" dropped pocket lower a arm and a 2" spring. ECE says 6" w/o block and no c notch but I think that might be alittle much maybe 3 with block. Ideas? Get dropped shocks also they are valved for a lower vehicle.
