6 lug 16.5 wheels?
Until today I have never seen 6 lug 16.5 wheels. They are on my 68 1/2 ton that I just brought home. They are probaly 8" wide.Did they come on 4x4's? Not too many people I have talked to have ever seen a 68 1/2 ton with leaf springs, factory a/c,327,th400,p/s,p/b.and it's not a CST! some have said that it could be a camper special heavy half ton. does that make sence?

Nice find, as far as i know there weren't any heavy half tons until the 73-up models. leaf springs were an option, most chevys had trailing arms, GMC leaves.
It could be a special order, what does the spid on the glove box read? |

Re: 6 lug 16.5 wheels?
I've seen 16 inch on a 1/2 ton, never 16.5's. There was an option for 16's in the 67 - 72 series.
Heavy half was never sold in the 67 - 72 there were not many CSTs made in 68, but plenty of trucks with the options you listed, the A/C is the only thing you listed (other than the wheels) that would be close to being rare. |

Re: 6 lug 16.5 wheels?
i know 16.5 wheels were available for 6 lug 4x4s, i've owned a couple of sets over the last 20+ years of doing these trucks. the last set came off a 72 blazer right here in town---they were listed on the option sheet also, 16.5 x 8.25. i also had a 71 4x4 that had 16 x 6 six lug wheels also listed on the option sheet. on one of the blazer dealer brochures shows a blazer with the 16.5s on it. there's also a 72 stepside 1/2 ton 2 wd around town with 16.5 x 8.25 five lugs but i've never found out if they were factory or not.

Re: 6 lug 16.5 wheels?
I bought a pair of 16.5 x 8.25 rims w/bias ply tires in '73 for use on my '68 stepside, which [according to the SPID] came equipped w/ 7.00 x 17.5s. (Another rara avis.) I still have the 16.5 rims, one is mounted with a 33x12.50x16.5 radial that I use for a spare on my '71 Jimmy which has 33 x12.50 x15 LT Dunlop Radial Rover ATs on 15" white spoke rims. The diameter is the same.
My 16.5 x 8.25 rims have the six hubcap clips, and I remember I used to have my stock Chevy hubcaps on them. I don't know if it's a GM made rim though.
