found my oil leak

it wasnt the rear main as i suspected. the oil pan gasket was leaking, because a lot of the bolts where pretty darn loose. loose enough to turn by hand...

i tightened up all the bolts, but the gasket is still covered in oil, is that going to be a problem since it is cork? i ran the truck for about 15 minutes and it didnt leak while running and hasnt leaked after shutting it off either.

Good catch, I wouldn't expect trouble from the side gaskets but potentially the front/rear gaskets. If it ain't leaking now I would expect it to last a while. You can replace the gaskets easily if you need to by jacking up the engine a bit and placing a chunk of 2x4 between the mount and the frame to allow you to remove the pan.

Re: found my oil leak

you don't have to lift the motor to change the oil pan gasket. it will have enough room to drop down and slide out

You're absolutely right; I've done this a couple of times and it was a PITA for me and so I just found it easier to remove the pan completely. I should have noted that in my response.

You can probably see better than we can I would still expect you could just remove the bolts and slip everything in...but as I noted I sure found that to be a pain. I would expect you could get the engine up high enough to get it completely off with the engine in the car.

yeah, it shouldnt be to much a problem, it was just kinda a pita to get to the rear bolts.

lets hope that it doesnt leak anymore since tightening them

in the front i have 1.5" western chassis drop coils and 3" DJM drop spindles.

in the rear i'm using a 5" western chassis flipkit(although it lowered it more than 5")
