found my oil leak
it wasnt the rear main as i suspected. the oil pan gasket was leaking, because a lot of the bolts where pretty darn loose. loose enough to turn by hand...
i tightened up all the bolts, but the gasket is still covered in oil, is that going to be a problem since it is cork? i ran the truck for about 15 minutes and it didnt leak while running and hasnt leaked after shutting it off either. |

Re: found my oil leak
you don't have to lift the motor to change the oil pan gasket. it will have enough room to drop down and slide out

Re: found my oil leak
You're absolutely right; I've done this a couple of times and it was a PITA for me and so I just found it easier to remove the pan completely. I should have noted that in my response.

Re: found my oil leak
You can probably see better than we can I would still expect you could just remove the bolts and slip everything in...but as I noted I sure found that to be a pain. I would expect you could get the engine up high enough to get it completely off with the engine in the car.
