window seals

I was able to successfully replace the glass runs and window seals on my 79 this weekend. I didn't do the wing window, but I was able to get it done without removing the window. Depending on the condition of your wing, this may be helpful to you. In my case, the screw holding in the wing post was stripped and I would have had to drill it out, so this method was much faster and easier.

1. Roll the window down and remove the window seals on the inside and outside of the door.

2. Working from the top, front of the window channel, start pulling out the felt that goes along the top of the channel and around to the back. Mine was so old that it was more like pulling out hard plastic than rubber.

3. Before getting to the bottom of the window, start pulling UP on the seal to remove it from the channel traveling into the door. Be careful if the rubber is breaking, make sure you always have enough sticking out of the door to hold on to. Keep going until it all slides out.

4. Repeat on the rubber in the window / wing channel runner.

5. When installing the new felt, spray them down on the back side with silicone. A bit of working in along the edges and twisting you arm into the door to get the insides parts seated is all it takes.

Good luck.
