Newbie from Sherwood Park, AB
Hey everyone I live in Sherwood Park, Alberta, Canada. I own a restorted '69 Chevy C10 Longhorn. I bought the truck for $550.00 about 8 years ago from a farmer that had it sitting in his front yard for sale. I worked on it throughout junior high, high school, & university as money came available. Now it is appraised at almost $13,500. It was a very long project but paid off in the end. Now I have a classic cruiser to be proud of, plus it gets more attention than any new truck. Here is a picture of what it basically looks like.
I'm somewhat new to this website & have been reading many of the posts. Maybe I can get a few more tips from some of you guys/gals on here for my truck.

Nice truck! It's not too often you see a 283 in that year of truck. Can you tell us your method of lowering the stance. Looks like it sits just right.

Re: Newbie from Sherwood Park, AB
All I used to lower my truck were lowering springs. 2" drop coils up front & 3" drop coils in the rear. To make some extra room for the michelin tires in the back I had to use 1" wheel spacers in the rear.
I know the 307 replaced the 283 in '69, but that is what was in the truck when I bought it. The 283 engine was rebuilt back in the mid '90's, the previous owner gave me some receipts when I bought the truck. It is basically stock right now with a 2 BBL, but I plan to put an edelbrock intake with a 4 BBL & K&N air filter on it this winter. Maybe get the heads rebuilt or look at buying the World Products S/R Torquer 305 heads, drop in a mild performance cam, the basic goodies to spruce the old engine up a bit. All I did to the engine so far is clean it up & paint it chevy orange, buy some new spark plugs, accel spark plug wires, & add an HEI distributer. It may not be a powerhouse with 300+ HP, but there isn't too many people around here that can say the have an old venerable 283 under their hood. I just like to be different because everybody has a 305 or a 350.

I'd be glad to post some more pics, when I get a chance. I'm hopefully getting a digital camera for X-mas.

Re: Newbie from Sherwood Park, AB
I have a few pictures that I took with my camera phone a while ago. The quality kind of sucks but you get the idea.
Here is what my rear end looks like. And here is what my engine look like. This is a window decal I bought off E-Bay that I will be putting on my back window to represent.

Re: Newbie from Sherwood Park, AB
Hi! I'm also new to this forum...I have already got some great advice.
So do you attend the Endless Summer show and shine at the Sherwood Park Alliance Church in August? I hope to have my truck done by next year's show. Later, Ross |

Re: Newbie from Sherwood Park, AB
I attend the show, but I don't enter my truck in the show. Don't get me wrong my truck looks great and all, but it isn't really show worthy. There are some minor imperfections in the paint & the engines not completed. It's just a cruiser that I drive during the spring & summer when the weather permits.

Re: Newbie from Sherwood Park, AB
Yeah, I have 1/8" thick spray in bed liner in the bed of my truck. I got a shop in town to do it for me. It was around $100. Looks good though, the chrome/wood bed looks better but i'd have to take better care of it if I installed that.
