72 Body- 73 Chassis - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I have a 72 C20 and I want a 4x4, how hard is it to put the 72 body on a 73 4x4 chassis?
If any of you have done this before please give me some pointers?

It will require welding,fabricating new body mounts,and a body lift.Mudder has done this with a 67 c/20 and a newer 4x4 chassis.PM him and he will email you some info.

just keep the 72 frame, they are very different under the cab. and pull all the 4wd hangers off the 73 and put them on the 72 after you remove the 2wd front crossmember. much cleaner than using the 73 frame.

I think the 73 frame is longer from what I remember reading here, as far as putting the 4X4 gear under the 72, if it is coil spring rear, the frame curves in the rear for the coil mounts, I don't know if rear leafs will go on there.

Yes they will. I installed a complete 73 Blazer drivetrain (less engine) under my 1970 c/10 originally equipped with coil springs. I even left the engine in it's factory 2x4 forward location.

The newer (73+) long bed frame is longer than a 67-72 longbed frame

Both the longbed and shortbed frames are a little longer. It's not a big deal doing. If done right looks good and clean and has some advanages using a newer frame.
