What Was Largest Stock Tire Option On 72 K5?
Hey Members, I am considering buying stock 16" wheels for my 72 K5. I want to determine if 16" wheels came stock from GM on the 72 K5 and if so what largest stock tire option was offered. I need this info for the following two reasons:
1. I want to install the tallest tire option GM originally offered but do not want to worry about rubbing. 2. COSTCO will not warranty tires if I can not provide GM data stating this size tire was an original stock option. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. ...Dan |

My '72 has stock 16" rims with 235/85R16. I assume they are the stock tire size.

I just located a "1972 Chevrolet Trucks/Pickups, Chassis Cabs & 4-Wheel Drives" brochure. Optional tire sizes for 1/2 ton 4 wheel drive:
Tubless Tires: H78-15B, 10.00-16.5C Tube-Type: G78-15B, 6.50-16C, 7.00-15C Last edited by jacobs; 01-12-2007 at 11:18 PM. |

Re: What Was Largest Stock Tire Option On 72 K5?
Hey Guys, thanks for the input.
Jacobs, I have a 72 K5 brochure that list tube type 6.50-16C with rim width 5.0-8.25. Does this indicate a 6.5 sidewall height on a 16 rim which would be 225/75r16 with 29.3 dia? Bouncy, appears your tires have 31.7 dia? Did you add the lift to your K5? Dan |

Re: What Was Largest Stock Tire Option On 72 K5?
Back in 72 they did not use metric sizing as they do today. If costco is going to be that strict then they proboly wont except an equivalent of the original ither. If it were me I would tell costco to go suck an egg and go to a repitable tire sror that warrantys there product and does not try to hide behind loop holes. Try Discount tire or 4 wheel parts wholesalers, and pick a size that you like. If you want to stay with a stock look but have a modern size go with a 265/75/16, its a very common modern pickup/ suburban tire you can find any where for cheap. Try wallmart as well.
