Work sucks.. any one else have a bad day!
So I get called in to an emergancy meeting this morning , upon arival I am greated by my boss with a sour look on his face. I asked what was going on and he procedes to tell me that he was instructed to lay me off . So I procided to start loading ( ok maby throughing) stuff into his truck that he requested back, including my laptop . So after the big smoky burn out out the parking lot and a few hours of updating my resume, I am now at the library using there computer looking for a new job. This sucks, my wife cant stop crying, Im mad but getting over it, except that 4 months ago I just bought a new truck for that job so now I have a $550. truck payment on top of it all!
I know that there are a lot worse things that can happen but man this sucks, the bad thing is I really liked that job. So if any one knows of somewhere that is hireing, Im lookin. I was most recently doing outside commercial sales for a construction supply company, I have also been a superintendant, and other forms of construction management. I have an automotive background as well, Sevice manager, writer, and was a shop forman for 4Wheel parts for about 4 years as well. If any one has any leads please let me know, before my kids dont have a home!!! Thanks all shawn |

Take a look at some of the Jobs with my employer. I've been with them 2-1/2 years now. Some of the usual corporate stupidity, but not too bad. The owner is directly involved with the company, will talk to any employee if they ask, & at least seems to give a hoot. And they have locations close to you!

I'd offer you a delivery job but youre a bit too far away, i cant imagine you'd want to move from beautiful colorado to this area. I wish i could help you, i really do. It will get better and in fact this layoff is a blessing for you, you will find something much better than you had.

Re: Work sucks.. any one else have a bad day!
I don't suppose you have a degree in construction. A friend of mine was a construction foreman and has a degree in construction science. He is a safety engineer at SAIC working on big oil contracts.
And while you're on Craig's List, check out the job postings and consider posting a sanitized (no street address) version of your resume. I have found my last 2 jobs on Craig's List by emailing my resume with a short cover letter. |

Re: Work sucks.. any one else have a bad day!
Been there done that...got the T-shirt.
Was a VP of Ops for a company (venture capital funded) and they ran out of money...told me I could work for free. I opted to not work for free. Making $180,000 and then laid off...got some emergency jobs @ $10/hour stocking DVDs at Best Buy, Selling Qwest DSL and merchandising Carhartt apparel at a number of stores. Felt very humble to go from Exec to worker bee...had tons of thoughts like "I am more highly trained than this" etc for a while...but after a while felt OK...still had to eat. Check www.mosaic.com for some part time work. We were OK...because prior to being laid off I got out of debt ... www.daveramsey.com helped me prioritize my expenses and reduce about $95,000 of debt in about 18 months. He can also help out on the prioritization when one loses employment. Four Walls are most important. 1. Roof over head 2. Heat and utilities 3. Food and clothing 4. Transportation Everything else goes on the back burner and does not get a penny as long as you are in survival mode. It will amaze you how you can fend off creditors and how toothless their threats are and how much power you really have. Good luck...you will be OK. Hug your wife...she is scared right now and needs your support. Tim

Just keep in mind, everything happens for a reason. I know it pisses you off and it seems like everything is against you right now, but something will come your way. I'll keep you in my prayers.

i know it sounds kinda lame, but you should definitely be entitled to unemployment. thats what its there for. and it really helps alot. good luck- things will brighten with a little time.

Re: Work sucks.. any one else have a bad day!
Sorry to hear of your situation skchevota, but I STRONGLY second timcos comments about Dave Ramsey. I work for a company that had two partners, one very much a mentor figure, the other pretty much just occupies space. The mentor partner came down with ALS and unfortunately doesn't have much more time with us. This really brought my life into perspective and I realized that without debt and with a little bit of an Emergency Fund...you have options.
I realize that's not much help for today, but keep your head up, keep looking for something and take some odd jobs until something comes along. Once you get back on your feet, check out www.daveramsey.com It'll change your way of life...if you work at it. It did for my family. Good luck
