New pics of my scrap yard truck

I took a load of scrap to the local scap dealer yesterday. while the magnet was unloading it I looked over and saw a 1969 longbed on top of a pile of crushed cars. I asked the guy if it was for sale, he said sure for scrap price, $300, I said "will you take a check!?!" so now I have a CST longbed sitting in my shop with 119000 original miles on the 350/350 combo (complete oil change records in the glovebox). Factory AC has been converted to 134-a This truck is loaded to the max and pretty much rust free. Last on the road on 2002 according to the gas recipts. The seat doesn't have a single tear in it. It did not have a dent in it till it got to the scap yard. Now the passenger side door, and the pass bed infront of the wheel is pushed in, and the exhaust pipe is crushed from a fork lift.

I squirted some gas in the carb and is started! Looks to be a one owner truck.

Looks like I'll be using my rust bucket 72 to put this one back on the road.

I'm really not bragging, I just had to let my excitement out, my wife doesn't understand...

Here are a few pics:

Re: Found another truck yesterday

My dad and I are responsible for bringing about 10 67-72 C-10's and about 6 67-68 firebirds to the crusher. In our defense, they were mostly stripped, and what wasn't stripped was wrecked or so badly rotted from the NY weather, they weren't worth saving. Still sad though.

Glad you saved a good one though

Re: Found another truck yesterday

Saving a truck from the crusher at the last minute like that is kind of like adopting a dog from the pound----no matter the age---it will show you it's appreciation and be one of the best you will ever have!!!! Give it a bath, some fresh food (gas), and an occasional hug----Huck!!!

Re: Found another truck yesterday

I work in ag and find those deals from time to time - a couple of weeks ago there was a '69 longbed, pretty complete with all the chrome (it was a little worn) and a lot of good parts - not much rust - but I don't have anywhere to put another one, so I grabbed a few parts and let it go - they wanted me to take it off their hands free! I'd kill for another garage, but then I'd need another after that...

Re: Found another truck yesterday

Wow...someone must have been really nuts to sell it to the scrap yartd You did get a great buy As a matter of fact you got a steal! I also found my 70cst in a scrap yard but it was up for sell and it cost me about $2500. My wife thought I bought a pink elephant. But then again wouldn't a pink elephant be priceless?
Sometimes I wonder how any good trucks are just sitting out there waiting for someone to find them a home. : Then again how many trucks are out there wasting away and the owner won't sell them because someday they are going to fix them up. Maybe I'll start a new thread asking..."Where did you find your first truck?" Isn't this hobby just one big dance?

Re: Found another truck yesterday

I took the truck for it's first spin around the house on Saturday, she did great! You can beat the deal I got on this truck with a stick. I put it on the lift to change the tranny fluid and found a new carrier bearing, and the front end is tight as tight can be. It drove like a caddy. The springs are a little soft, I'll have to swap them when I do the disc brake swap (I got the booster, brackets, prop valve etc for that today.) Manual drums are NO FUN, and since I'll be towing with it, I want to do the swap.

I am going to get tags on it tomorrow, liabilty insurance will be $60 a year! Be driving it to work on Wednesday.

I also got the porta power out and took out most of the dents left by the forklift in the scap yard. If you guys don't have a full porta power set up, put it on your Christmas list. They are great. I'll post some post body work pics when I can get them. I really would like to get by without painting it. I like the patina.

Looks Good! I too am amazed at what some people will throw away. I think I will start hanging out at our local scrap & recycle center.
