im changing my intake and carb!!!!

i have never done it before so im taking it slow and trying to teaching myself anything i dont know. i got everything apart and pulled the intake(after cleaning around it). that intake was NASTY, just looking at it makes me wanna rebuild my poor engine and make it look and run new. but ill have to wait till i got the money to do it and somebody to give me some pointers. anyways i got all the gaskets on but the rear end gasket was the wrong one so i just used silicon, i just hope it works. i gotta get some studs for the intake so i can put my new carb on. and i still gotta put my new distributor in, and i got some more plugs and wires. just thought id let ya know how its goin. let me know what ya think.

Re: im changing my intake and carb!!!!

for the studs on the carb intake I took my studs down to Lowes. they have a bolt template hanging were all the misc bolts can be bought, I used that instead of the studs.

good luck

Re: im changing my intake and carb!!!!

You will be just fine using RTV on the rear of the intake. I never use either the front or rear seals since they always leak. Most auto parts stores that I have been in will offer a carb stud kit in multiple lengths but as the previous reply stated bolts from a hardware store will work just fine. Keep in mind that you are likely working with aluminum and can be stripped out easily. Did you get the torque specs and order for the intake bolts? I assume you know the procedure for installing the distributor, if not there are plenty here that can help.

Good luck and let us know how it goes!

Re: im changing my intake and carb!!!!

I would caution against using bolts on the carb. It is much easier to get the studs in properly while the intake is sitting on a bench. I would even Loc Tite the studs in. Taking the studs or bolts out of the intake, and putting them back in is a good way to strip the threads.
