Sloppy shifter
Hi all,
I'm beginning the fix up stage of my "new" 1970 Chevy K20 4x4. It has the 4 speed tranny, but I'm not sure what make it is. The gearshift is quite loose when in gear, and its a little hard to find the next gear. I have pulled it out of the housing to look at it and see what I could fix. The little rounded end that slides the gear rails back and forth is fitted really loosely onto the bottom of the shifter, and is held on by a small rollpin. Is there a way to tighten this up? Also, I think I will replace the 2 rollpins in the tranny housing that hold the shifter in place and maybe weld and regroove the places that the rollpins fit into on the shifter. Any thoughts? Thanks!! CT. |

Re: Sloppy shifter
Check out Pirate4x4.com in the tech section. Down in the 2005 articles there is a how to on fixing sloppy sm465 shifters.
I ran across this the other day and marked it because I will be doing it in the future, when my truck gets going.

Re: Sloppy shifter
Hey Blazerman,
did you do anything to the "snout" at the bottom of the shifter? The ball end on mine is so loose in the snout that I think thats where most of my problem is. Thanks for the info! CT |
