Bandwidth and maintenance on a site like this is outrageously expensive. The $25 a year to help support the site is very reasonable and well worth the tiny investment. They don't require you to join unless you want to sell here.
Take a few nights and look around at the wealth of information recorded here and you will quickly realize what a deal this is. Welcome to the board!
