I just purchased a 71 short wide and would like to lower it as low as possible without going into the bed, does a 4" 6" drop require c-notching has anyone used the new cpp kit. Any info would be awesome.

Ive read on here several times you can do a 6 inch drop without the notches. Just don't plan on carrying anything heavy in the box. If you're building a burb or a panel, because of the extra weight you need to put in the notches.

I've owned 4 trucks in the last few years with 6 inch drops. I haven't notched any of them. I use them like a truck. I carry engines and other heavy stuff.

I ONLY use ECE for my stuff though. Their customer service put CPP to shame.

With a 6" drop you do not need a C-notch, but then again yes you do

What does a C-notch do! It gives your axel more room to travel before hitting the bump stops or frame (if your stops are not installed) Does a the axle sit on the frame with a 6" drop? No it does not so you do not need to notch the frame. Is the axle close to the frame? Yes 6" closer than what the factory thought was corrrect for a real working truck. Will your axle hit the frame with a drop and with out a notch? Yes from time to time when you hit a big bump or have a semi heavy load in back and hit a small bump.

So in short if want the best ride (thru the full range of travel) then yes you want a C-notch, if you dont mind a hard hit from time to time then no you do not need a C-notch. So everyone is correct! It is a personal call that is not that hard to make.

I have a 7" drop (5" coils & 2" blocks) and I did the notch because I didn't want to deal w/ hittin' the frame. Since I've had it, I've never bottomed out, even while carrying small to moderate loads. But as stated above, it's not necessary w/ a 4/6, especially if it's not a workhorse.

Thanks for all the feedback, now I know I can go lower than 4/6 how low can you go with a c-notched frame. This is my first truck and it's a little harder to get the right ride height than my 66 Nova. Any pics you guys have of different ride heights would be killer.
