core support help...

I need to replace inner fender and core support on my '68 halfton (rusted out under batt box).

Questions:

Is it possible to remove the core support without:
a) removing the front grille
b) draining the radiator fluid and removing the radiator

If neither a) or b) are possible, what do you suggest I use to brace the outer fenders to keep them aligned properly?

Finally, anyone have any tips or tricks to make my life easier?

I did search on the topic, but most of the threads cover differences between the 67-68 and the 69-72.

You will have to remove the grill but you do not have to disconnect the radiator. The fenders will be attached by the bolts underneath of the cowl and at the bottom. You can TRY to pull the grill out without loosening the fenders at the back mounting locations but I think in the end to adjust them you will have to loosen them. The other option would be to patch the core support while still in the truck with the wheel house removed. Just a thought.

I need to replace the core support anyway. I am using a stock Auxillary battery tray to move my battery to the driver's side of the truck, and my current radiator support doesn't have the provision holes for the tray.

so...I'm going to swap a corroded holy rad support w/no aux batt tray holes for a nice, clean rad support w/aux tray holes.

I might take the old rad support, clean it up, patch it, shave the bumps, then sell it. Not sure yet.

Well, I mean, it's just a little section, I have the metal to do it with, I need to learn myself how to weld and ... seriously, the core support is cherry except for this one stupid little part.

Drives me nuts, my inner fender is the same way.
