I have a 72' GMC with a turbo 400 and the 4 bolts were loose on the torque converter to the fly wheel. I tighten them. If they loosen up again what is the best way to keep them from loosening up again? Thank you.

Re: Torque converter bolt ?
Probably just whoever installed them last. But you could use some Locktite if they do loosen up. Don't use the stuff for rod bolts though,(red). Use some liter application, like the blue.

Re: Torque converter bolt ?
on a side note, inspect the holes on the flywheel for cracks, very common if the converter was loose

Re: Torque converter bolt ?
When I owned the shop we installed a trans in a customers truck that the converter bolts cam loose twice. Th third time we used blue loctite and has been fine since. That was almost 3 years ago.

Re: Torque converter bolt ?
sounds like you are either missing 2 bolts or have 1 too many.

Re: Torque converter bolt ?
I was wondering about that myself... but couldn't remember on the TH400 (I've always run TH350's) but I now remember I have a 400 converter in my 350, and it only has 3 bolts.

Re: Torque converter bolt ?
interesting tidbit for the swappers here... a 6 bolt converter can be used on a 3 bolt flex plate. 3 of them will line right up no problem, and you just ignore the other 3
