Frustrated I am thinking about selling the whole thing.
I haven't seen the truck in about two months. It is 3hrs away and still waiting on me to fix my brakes before i can drive it again.
I am really stuck on my brake situation. I did an ece power disc brake conversion, but have been having a miserable time with it. First, they sent me a bad caliper. Then, I realized they sent the wrong length rod that goes between the master cylinder and a the booster. Fixed that problem and still had no pedal what so ever. Found a pin whole in my brake lines I am getting pretty down in the dumps. I ordered a new set of lines from inline tube. I will attempt to install this coming weekend. I have a four day weekend coming. If my lines get here in time I will work on it. If not I will go fishing I haven't wet a hook all year

Sometimes it's best just to walk away for awhile. Go and get the hook wet!!

Sometimes I get my best thinkin' done sitting in the boat and waiting for action. A bad day of fishing beats the best day at work.

i know I am just venting my frustrations. I don't believe I will be selling this one. I have wanted one like it for so long.
It would be like giving up on rebellious child...sometimes you want to throw a hammer at them, but they put people away for that kinda thing these days.

I don't think you'll be disappointed with the lines from inline tube. I installed a set on my rolling chassis, and the only way it could've been easier would be if they installed themselves!

I want to get some 'nice' upper hard lines (the ones that go from the prop-valve to the mstr cyl) for a 73-later brake system but I'm worried I'll have to hand bend them to fit right which negates getting the 'nice' lines.

SCOTI - The lines fit very well. I used the factory clips across the back of the front suspension crossmember, and used new insulated clamps down the frame rail. Everything lined up with very little persuasion.
I can't speak for the upper system lines though, I'm not to that point yet. |

Take a break and go Fishing for a day or so to freshen your mind. When you have all the parts go back and take your time and put it togethr. The longer it takes and the more you put into it the more you will enjoy it when you are done and the learning experience is worth the wait as well. My truck took 3.5 years just for the body work alone but is definitely being enjoyed now with it finished. Be Patient Lad as its worth the wait and doing it right only makes you happier later. Remember they say Patience is a virtue and when building your own toys it as important as well to do it right.

Re: Frustrated I am thinking about selling the whole thing.
Been there. Done that. Got the t-shirt. But sometimes you just need to take a break. Sometimes a long break.
Seems like i've been trying to finish my current project ('94 YJ) forever. Even though it's only been a few months. I had a '91 YJ i put a ton of money and time into. All the mechanical work was done. It was time to go crawl a few rocks and sling some mud. Coming home from work last October a dipwad in a Ferd Tarass came screaming out of a gas station right in front of me. I basically ran over the front end of the Ferd. Standing there in the middle of the road looking at my busted up jeep, i just wanted to cry. Two years of over time and hard work shot to crap. It was the last project my bro in law (he was like my big bro for almost 40 years) and i worked on together before he passed away last June. He was only 58. I took the insurance money and bought another jeep (my current project). I did a small lift, threw on some tires and wheels, robbed the wrecked jeep of a few parts and called it good. A couple weeks before Chrtistmas i got up one Saturday morning, looked out the window, and the jeep was gone. I got it back a few days later. No tires, wheels, bumpers, battery or winch. I threw some stock tires and wheels on it and stuffed it into a far corner of the back yard. I was through. No more jeeps. Two jeeps in three months. My jeepin' buddy kept telling me "Don't let the bastards win. Build it back. You know you want to". I let it set. We had planned a trip to the desert in early March but the jeep wasn't ready to make the trip. Our 40th wedding aniversary was coming up in May. I decided i wanted to take the wife to Hawaii. I worked tons of OT. We left for Hawaii on May 12th. We got back on May 19th. That was the break i needed. I was ready to start on the jeep. Last weekend i swapped the lift kit from the '91. I threw on some 35.12.50x15's on 10" white rims. This weekend i changed the motor mounts and a few other odd and ends. In a couple weeks i should be ready to swap in the 8.8 rearend and swap the front gears and locker. I really need to get this thing finished so i can start building my '58 stepside. Sometimes you just need to take a break. Sometimes a long break. |

My heart goes out to you with the frustration you must have over this whole issue. That really would frost my butt something awful. Obviously you have learned a valuble lesson and will put alrams on your toys from now on as a suggestion.

Re: Frustrated I am thinking about selling the whole thing.
I had been shopping for alarms but hadn't decided what to put on it. But for now it sits in the garage at night. We have a secured, patroled garage at work so i don't worry to much about it at work. Soon as i figure out what i want i'll get one installed.
