Look what I found...C-50
Ran across this this weekend and fell in love. Thought I would share one of the survivors.

Re: Look what I found...C-50
Here you go...running, working C50 with a newer 350 for $2000. I have seen some for less than $1000...one for free with no motor.

Re: Look what I found...C-50
Thank you for sharing the pictures. I really like the big work trucks.
I was telling my wife today I should buy a dump truck so I could make a little money. Friday was my last day at Lowe's. What year is it?. Danny - SEMO |

Re: Look what I found...C-50
I didn't get out and look at it as it is still in service. It was working at Fort Hays State University in Hays Kansas, where I was attending a wrestling meet. Just caught my eye and I had to have a pic. Year 67-68?

Re: Look what I found...C-50
Yep that's a '68! Has the Bowtie/50 emblem with the sidemarker lamp and chrome cab lights. I saw a '67 C/60 tandem axle flatbed at the junkyard with the factory 427 TD w/ a Holley 4bbl, 5 speed, 4 speed auxillary and air over hydraulic brakes. Sucks that it got crushed, had some good sheetmetal on it.

Re: Look what I found...C-50
I drove a '74 C-65, with a 427, five-speed with a 4-speed auxillary (crash) gearbox. Don't want one of those setups, again. Splitting gears was fun, for a little bit. Next time, get one with a 10 or 13-speed gearbox.
Nice big trucks. There was one in Central Arkansas that was a working dump truck..a '69 CST cab with all the bright trim that goes along with it. Only one I recall seeing. It was a C-50, I believe, single rear axle, but with a helper axle attached, with air springs on it (to adjust the weight so it would axle-out with a load).

Re: Look what I found...C-50
Seems like anything over 80" wide at any point had to have regulation lighting equipment. Clearance lights, side markers, etc.
I have a CDL and no health card. I'm good to 62K. Of course, I drive a school bus, and am restricted to them. Otherwise, I have to pay more money for my CDL. It's all good.

Re: Look what I found...C-50
jeffspower I really like that truck
I know where there's one sitting out of comision i might have to check on. I really really don't need it but it would be cool to make a rollback out of to haul the short bed around on. First things first though. I am still in the tear down stage of the 2wd I can sure fine projects I just have trouble working/finishing them. RJ22... |

Re: Look what I found...C-50
I just grabbed a shift knob and the guage assembly out of one this past weekend - it had a I6 in it that looked just like the one in my 1/2 ton.??? Huge wheels, duals in the back of course.... no power brakes or steering!!! I was just amazed at the size of the vehicle and the lack of "stuff" to make it go, turn and stop.... They must be fun to drive!

Re: Look what I found...C-50
I've just noticed one of these in rollback trim at a body shop near me. I will get some pics, check condition and find out if it's for sale. Will post more info later this week.

Re: Look what I found...C-50
Stopped tonight after hours and took some pics. Truck was plated so it looks like they are using it as intended. Looked like it was in pretty good condition. Badges missing.
For those who know about these heavy duty trucks, can you answer this one? It's got the small rear window cab (like a '67) but has marker lights in the front fenders (like '68+). Anybody know? Enjoy!

Re: Look what I found...C-50
IIRC, all of the C40+ trucks had a small back window, even the 73-87 models. The largest truck I've driven was an 80-something C50 dump with a 366/4bb/4speed. It was badass to drive....and with hyrdoboost the brakes worked better than my C10!
