Re: What did you get done? 06/17

Swapped the 3.42 open rear for my 3.08 Posi rear. Not quite the blast that the 3.42's were but at least it hooks up now. The 3.08 rear has completely rebuilt brakes which also fueled the decision. 3.42's will go in the 3.08 posi housing when I get a 700R4.

Removed 4 leafs from each of the rear springs. I got a pretty decent drop in the rear and it rides much smoother. I need to decide how to lower the front though because it still has the HD coils up front and the front is sitting higher than the rear.

Swapped a balanced 1 piece drive shaft for the 2 piece it had. The 1 piece was rebuilt with new U joints while the stock 2 piece had a mile of slack in it. Removing the carrier bearing mounting bracket was the toughest part.

I'll post some pics later.

Re: What did you get done? 06/17

Nothing truck related but I did get a project off my list.
After 10 years, moving twice and a shop fire I finally got my aluminum stool back together. I had parts spread across the shop, my house and my dad’s shop. It was owned by a painter friend of mine so it had several coats on it before I got it. I had wild dreams of polishing it but after working on it for awhile (hence the 10 years) I decided to just brush it and polish all the hardware.

Re: What did you get done? 06/17

The most importnt thing I got done (if you can call it that), was finding out that my wife and I will be bringing a baby girl into the world in about 4 months...I am soo excited I can't quit talking about it.

Besides that, I started tearing down the 'burb, it needs new head gaskets. I will also the valve seals replaced while the heads are off. I can't believe what a PITA it is to strip off the top end on this '90...lots of stuff in the way.

Re: What did you get done? 06/17

I replaced some mild steel hardware on the 68 w/some stainless. I unloaded the steel-floor off of the rolling chassis that's on my car trailer. It was quite the task to get it down off of the truck & on to the ground w/o tearing a bunch of stuff up in between. I started cleaning it up (scrubbing the floor & hammer/dolleying some tweaked metal) so it can be mocked up in place on the 68 to determine where to remount the air stuff & the soon to be relocated battery.

Today I watched it rain & then went out to dinner w/my GF's parents for Fathers day.

All I managed to get done yesterday was swap out all the old GM HEI stuff with new MSD High Output stuff. Cap, Rotor, and Module. What a difference.

Re: What did you get done? 06/17

Saturday - went up to Grayling in the morning, talked to a fabricator about racing go-kart suspensions. Afternoon was spent tuning the Holley (swapping out power valves) and installing a support bracket for the heater core hoses, and the evening was a relaxed one in front of the TV.

Sunday - wake up at noon, watch "Firefox" on Spike, pick up a prospective student from the bus station, take said prospective student to the university's dorms, attend team meeting for senior project, go home, watch "Ice Road Truckers" on the History Channel, eat dinner, and I'm about to finish my take-home exam in Mechanical Vibrations.

went out to aviation square. my truck caught the attention of an elderly gentleman out there just seein what us "kids" had... wanted to know if I wanted to sell my truck, it was blingin I was thrilled that out in all the rice, my CHEVY was gettin the attention . Then I had to go to work, it sucked cuz we had to pull the ramp toes completely off of an aircraft so that sheetmetal could fix it. oh, and I won a game of chess at the squadron while waiting to go out to the acft to work, wewt!

Re: What did you get done? 06/17

Friday morning I found a piece of concrete wedged in my rear quarter glass of the Suburban I have been dealing with. When and got a replacement for it before the company closed.
Saturday pulled the glass out and started to put the new on it only to discover that it had a bullseye in it. Yippie. No one had a replacement so I put the broken one back in. After that I found the last issue with the Burb not running, the magnetic pickup was TOAST. No one had the part to rebuilt the distributor, so I got a replacement. Once I got it in it ran great. I drove it to work today!

Sunday spent time with Elizabeth since it was my first Fathers day and went to our parents houses.

I have already said it to you before Jeff, but I will say it again. A HUGE congratulations to you! It will be your greatest addition!

Re: What did you get done? 06/17

I worked on the Camaro all weekend. I got the headlights fixed so they wont turn off when I am driving. Got the cd player from the cavy hooked up. Got the dash torn apart and got the dash lights working, got the horn disconnected so it will stop honking. Messed around with the semi-broke quadrajunk on there and got it running a little bit better. Got new 6x9s put in and got the headliner in the back to stop sagging after getting some different interior parts from the junkyard. Hung out with my dad and had dinner with him for fathers day.

Drug home a 1963 Corvair van. Not sure what the plan will lay a head for this oddity but it has been in the family since 1982, so I guess I can store it for a while until its future is determined.

in back hooked up to a Corvette rear end

Re: What did you get done? 06/17

Nothing really truck related for me.

Unless you count hauling all four atv wheels and tires down to the tire place to get new tires.

That was all I done, took my atv wheels and tires off because on thrusday or so on a ride we noticed they were dry rotted and cracking badly. So I took them down, sprayed my atv off real good, washed it off really good for the first time in awhile LOL, got four new tires mounted and new valve stems, painted the wheels and put em back on.

Then I washed it all off good when I got home, tire blacked the tires, armor-all'd the whole thing, mounted my bicycle drink holder on my radio box, then took it for a spin around the block all cleaned up.

Sunday I took it out on the trails for about 33 miles worth of riding, wasn't too dirty but man it was covered in dust. I forgot to get pics with it cleaned up, have to wash it and get some with my new tires on it.
