turn signal wiring.....

so anyway, my turn signals don't work and when i step on the brake the parklights in the front come on. when i first wired up the column(which is out of a 71), i ended up not running the white wire to the brake switch. now is there a specific way that they are supposed to be wired up?? i also forgot to reinstall the turnsignal lights on the guage cluster and hook them back up. do i need to have the lights there or will it work with out the lights there??

Re: turn signal wiring.....

Yes there is. If the front park lights are on when you press the brake, its obvious that you have accidentally incorporated the front lights into the brake light circtuit. This happens alot when people try to make it where the front park lights come on when the rears are on. The Turn signals in the front might not work without them, seeing as how they should be on the same side of the circuit, but the rears should work regardless. Do the rear signals work?

Re: turn signal wiring.....

yep, rears work. i think that might be my problem from when i rewired my truck i tied the front running lights with the rear running lights. i'll try redoing the running lights at the switch. good thing i have a schematic for my truck. now do i need the turnsignal indicator lights on the cluster or can i forgo using them for the time being??

Re: turn signal wiring.....

You can forgo them. They shouldnt prevent the fron signals from working. Fixing them is easy as well tho, just wire em in with the fron and put a bulb in. The sockets give ground to the bulbs through the dash cluster, so theres no worries. :P
