Retrofit 67-72 gas fill onto a 78?
Hey I was just thinking about getting a new bed for my 78 so that I could have the square fuel doors instead of the round ones.
Then I saw a 67-72 and thought maybe I could shave the gas fill off completely and put it on the cab like the 67-72's. I really like that look so has anyone done it or have pictures? |

there is a reason they moved them out of the cab.
but with the right body work anything is possible. though i'm not sure if the tank would be to tall for our cab. |

They had them on the cab because the tank was behind the seat. If you wanted to move it there and keep your current tanks, you would have cut a
hole in the cab to plumb it back to the tank. I suppose you could put a tank behind the seat. I rode in a 71' that made me sick with the smell of gas. The hoses rot after awhile and allow fumes out. For the time it worked fine but they weren't thinking 30 years down the road. |

Yeah I thought about the tank location thing and started thinking about creative ways to rout the fill tube through the back of the cab & into the bed but fatigue caused by the cab & bed flexing independently might make my truck into a car-b-cue.
Oh well, I guess I'll just go w/the square doors but if anyone runs across a workable conversion of this type please let me know. |

you could alway just put the fill on the inside of the bed not the floot but the side. that away you can use the bed not worry about hiting it and no outer doors.
