New Jimmy owner
Hey guys, Im happy to say that after a little time spent on the Suburban forum I am now going to add the Blazer/Jimmy forum to my frequent visit list.
A couple weeks ago a friend of my brother in law saw me at the local ice cream stand and told me a guy he worked with is selling a 72 Jimmy. I went to give it a quick once over and was a little surprised by what I saw. First let me say that the small block had hung a rod through the oil pan ,so it's not running and the paint is pretty shabby. Thats the bad. The good though is the body. It looks to be in excellent shape which is hard to come by in this area. The owner said that it came from Cali. All the suspension has been redone (4x4) and the auto tranny has been rebuilt. I have also been told that a soft top is included with the jimmy. I have a 454 in the shop to install so maybe I can have this thing moving under its own power soon. I will have to post pictures later when I get it to the house. I think I did o.k. on the price. The guy wanted 3k and I got him down to 2500. I'm excited to soon be driving topless. Aaron

Teaser Pics !
This is the soft top that came with the jimmy. The p.o. dropped it off with the title. This is a STC top, grey canvas with tinted windows. This thing is in excellent shape. I am so stoked. What was the retail on this top, anyone? Aaron

Re: New Jimmy owner
I think I paid right around $670 with shipping for mine. Very good score. I believe I still have a PDF of the install instructions if you need it. Send me a PM with your email and I'll send it to you.

Re: New Jimmy owner
Yes, they came in black, gray and white (what I have - pics in the signature link) vinyl. They also came black, denim and spice (rust color) canvas. I think there were a couple other colors as well. I used to have a set of sample swatches, but I tossed them a while back. You could also get them with clear or tinted windows (like yours).

Re: New Jimmy owner
Now some of the highlites. As you can see in the one photo of the bottom of the engine the rod is sticking out of the pan. The story I was told is that the guy I bought it from chased down this truck as it drove by and asked the owner to sell. The owner said no, then a couple months later offered to sell it after he toasted the tranny. I guess he wanted 10k, so no deal was struck. The owner then had the tranny rebuilt and promply blew up the engine. He offered it for sale again much cheaper. The new owner was going to put a motor in it and resell it when I came along and bought it on the cheap before he swapped engines. Now its my job to put a engine in it.
The body is super, minus the crappy paint and minor dents. The glove box sticker says it was originally med bronze with a black top. Other options were locker hubs, posi rear, 3.73 gears, air, tinted windows, rear seat, guages. I'm not sure what lift is on it but its all spring, no blocks, no body lift. The tires are 36X12.50X15. It has a poly tank and hidden receiver out back. I think the seats are late model truck buckets with integral seat belts up front and maybe a late 80's rear seat. The top is a double wall and the roll bar has a hoop over the front and extends all the way to the back with another hoop there. Anything else you guys want to know? I'm just starting to dig into it. Aaron

Re: New Jimmy owner
There is a classic case of "oil pan failure". Looks like it failed in a couple spots!
Engine replacement is definitely not as bad a problem as repairing a rust bucket. That is a very nice Jimmy. I also think it was a steal! Congrats!!! Later---DAC

Re: New Jimmy owner
You have a great Jimmy on your hands. Lucky the body looks to be in such good shape. Give some attention to whether those seats are mounted secure enough. There have been an number of discussions on the board about whether seats with integrated seatbelts can be safely used in our trucks and K5's. I am using a set in my 69 K20 and hopefully I reinforced the floor sufficiently - course I hope I never have to find out.

Re: New Jimmy owner
Looks like a great deal. You could probably just get a short block and replace the bottom end of the rig cheaper and easier than wedging a big block in there. The rest of the engine looks to be in good shape.
Also, given the tire size and the visual clearance, I'd guess you have 8" of lift.
