Help Please !!!
I had to put a new altanater on my truck 2 weeks ago and went ahead and put a new voltage regulator at the same time. The gauge in the truck(stock) fludders when the truck is running below 2000 rpm and sometimes pegs all the way over to charge and but when I apply the brakes it moves back to the center of the gauge and when you get on the gas its pegs again. I checked the voltage at the battery and I'm getting 14.8 volts what else do I need to check out? Any advice guys ?

Look at your name!
Still have the old regulator? I have found, in my personal experience, that any regulator that isn't an AC Delco, will not function correctly. Then it's hit and miss on the new AC Delco's.

May I please ask what is up with your Screen name?
I think the new voltage regulator and alternator aren't compatable which makes it kind of trip out. I guess, I'm not really knowledgable about anything. Brandon |

14.8? That's high, your looking for 13.8-14.2 volts. The alt is probably okay but I would question the regulator. Is the reg grounded correctly? Make sure the rest of the grounds are good, such as bat to engine and radiator support, engine to frame and frame to bed.

I know I should change the alt. to a one wire but you just don't fix somthing until it's broke, well now its broke and I'm ready to change it to a one wire what is the best way to go to a one wire alt ? What alt. do I need to go buy?

oh, okay, I didn't know where to seperate the letters and how to read it. WHY BUY NEW? Right? Wow I'm proud of myself now.
Well I always preach preventative maintenance, you fix it now it wont break later. Not don't fix it until its broke. Brandon |
