Anybody powder coated valve covers?
I have an aluminum marine valve cover that I want to put on my 250. It needs cleaning and has been painted black already. If I powder coat it chevy orange or something other than black, will the engine heat burn the powder coating so that it looks dirty or burnt?
If powder coating is best, where can I get it done? I haven't found any local shops that do it and was wondering if I could mail it somewhere to get coated? Thanks in advance for the advice. Mike

The heat should not bother the powder coating. It would have to get up over 400 degrees to bother it. I could put you in touch with my shop. They have stuff shipped to them from all over the country. They do a lot of automotive pieces to. Let me know if you are interested and I will get you the information.

Yes, valve covers are a favorite to powder coat. I use the Eastwood kit. Works great. You can even do a gloss clear on the aluminum.

If you do it yourself, be sure and bake the aluminum for a while to let the oils and stuff come out of the pores prior to powdercoating. If you don't, you will end up with fish eyes and blisters. I blast clean, bake, then sweep blast it again, then coat. For steel, this is not necessary.

I have had probs with powdercoated aluminum intakes "yellowing" slightly at the exhaust crossover passages.
Never had any probs with p-coated valvecovers though. Be sure to "cook" the impurities out like minibike suggested. Here's a pic of some cool Cal Customs I had powdercoated. SC
