Before I Cut the wire!!!
I am reinstalling my engine today and am cleaning up the wiring harness before doing so. I have HEI already installed with a hot 12 v running directly to fuse box. The yellow wire that comes off the starter and connects to the white (cloth covered?) wire goes to the old points, right? Can I just go ahead and cut the white wire at the connector going into the back of the fuse block? Thanks!
Shawn

Re: Before I Cut the wire!!!
yes you can or you could get a new connector and run your 12v from that space for a less cluttered and factory looking install

Re: Before I Cut the wire!!!
This would look good just be sure that it's a true 12volts , most of the time you will find that the factory coil supply wire has less then 12volts with key on, gm intended for this voltage drop to keep the ignition point's from burning. Whatever route you go just be sure that you have full supply power going to your hei with key on and or running. Cb

Re: Before I Cut the wire!!!
i've replaced numerous wires at the bulkhead eliminating the resistance wire never a problem not even on daily drivers over a 10 year span// theres a full 12v from the key to the bulkhead the resistor wire is what steps down the volts to the coil// and if you do just snip it and use your present wire put a dab of silicone on the snipped end to stay safe

that's why the cloth resistor wire is replaced. The wire is only on the firewall side of the bulkhead connector |
