Power steering conversion question, Help!
I have just installed the rez plate, cut the column, and stuck the new gearbox in place, and noticed my new (1984) gearbox, sits out 1/2'' from center to the column shaft. Has anyone else ran into this? I am now thinking that I should have gotten the 68-72 gearbox, but the rez instructions said it was for any gearbox up to 84, and my understanding is that the gearbox's are the same up to 87. excluding the pre 81 boxes. And now if I do need to switch the gearbox, I will have to get a new pump also Any help is appreciated.

It should have bolted right up without modification using the Rez kit. It fits the 605 chevy truck box.

It does bolt right up, but the two shafts do not line up right. I have solved the problem, but not the way I wanted to. I bought a double universal joint, at the cost of another $110.00. The gearbox was out of a 1984 2 wheel drive Chevy truck. But the two shafts are misaligned 1/2''.

I don't think it's the gearbox. If I'm reading your post right, You ned to use a BFH to dimple the frame so that it will mount a little flusher. I'm gonna have to do that on my '67. In '68 the frame was indented, and the power steering boxes fit O.K.. I'm gonna use a '79 box on mine and it should work just fine. Just needed the rag joint and the pitman arm from the '79. There are FAQ's on this in the '67-72 section. Hope this helps.

That was the conclusion I came with also. Which is why I decided on the u joint. That may be an exceptable amount to shove the steering shaft over, but it buged the heck out of me. It may never hurt anything, but I would think that it would cause the steering colum wear out faster, as there would be constant stress on it.
